Dear customers,

In December 1988 our biggest competitor, Meddix Air, ceased operations. España Internacional is trying to fill every gap that was left behind. With government help we managed to take over most long haul destinations and by reworking our 737-200Adv flight plans we also managed to open 16 more short haul destinations from Madrid.

By January 1989 we managed to sign deals with alliance partners to expand even further with a expanded leasing/buying agreement for now 84 Boeing 767-200ER. Since the oil crises España Internacional never managed to get a profit margin over 10%, but the bankruptcy and subventions from the Spanish government gave us the funding we needed to expand.

In March 1989 we managed to retire our last Vickers Super VC10. Since February 1989 a total of 42 Boeing 767-200ER are in service with 42 more joining our fleet within the next year. In February 1988 we ordered 14 Boeing 737-300 to replace our 14 Boeing 737-200 operating from Barcelona, the first one got delivered to us in February 1989 and we now operate a total of 7 Boeing 737-300 in Barcelona with 7 more to join there.

Immediately after the bankruptcy we signed a leasing agreement for 42 Boeing 737-300 with Kunst Aviation, one of our most trusted alliance partners. These will help us to expand into a new base airport and improving our operations in Madrid and Barcelona.

To celebrate our alliance partnership we painted our newest Boeing 737-300, EC-RDE, with an alliance special livery.
