Help- New Game World
« on: February 13, 2019, 01:23:18 PM »
Hi guys,

Been playing AWS for a few years now, on and off.

Sometimes off because I get fed up with never being competitive. I would love to play a game world start to finish. I don’t want to muscle in on the top guys etc, but would like to be able to serve the routes I want and operate my favourite planes.

So I want to start in the new game world but want to avoid airports where players have made their own (for obvious reasons)

Anyone got any tips or an airport idea suitable?

Cheers!

some years ago as a beginner I was completely overwhelmed in Taiwan, but had a very fun run in Sao Paolo (you always have to plan around that very short runway which keeps at least some of the competitors out) and then in Zurich in the next game world. Not places with a lot of strong players that would destroy you, but still big enough that you'll find a place in leaderboards.

Algiers can be fun(plenty of destinations in Europe, Africa & ME). But it is a matter of luck. I played once there, and the other player gave up after one year. Had I gone somewhere else... He might have survived. I'll try Vietnam next GW2. So avoid, if you don't like competition.

Large airports are usually (read 99.99% of the time) popular places. Thus if you want to play relatively peacefully, you'll need to accept to play in some 2nd tier airport.
Here are a few, usually not very populated, but quite interesting nonetheless:
 - Santo Domingo: rarely used, most interesting airports open in the 90s, though. Good LH demand, good SH demand, medium MH.
 - Keflavik: a bit tough to play due to the range needed, but quite nice, and close to both N-A and Europe.
 - Bucharest/Sofia: mostly SH and MH, possibility to expand abroad once they join the EU
 - Kiev: if you start during the times of the USSR, beware not to base outside today's Ukraine
 - any central american minor, usually a one-base airline

Other possibilities are to go for a different airline profile. You could have a commuter/regional airline in Europe without a problem, as long as you limit yourself to smaller airports. Mostly in the UK, Germany and Italy, also possible in France and Spain. Or China. Huge market, avoid the largest 20 airports, but still very decent (domestic) demand in the smaller ones.
Or some island hopper in the Pacific or Caribbean.

I'd advise against Keflavik(proper planning is really hard there) and island minors(boredom comes quickly). European  minors are a safer bet. Not much traffic, but with proper mediums, you're hard to kill. Faro, corfu, Beauvais are rather safe placed. You'll just never be a top 20 company. I finished 8th in score playing Warsaw, but it is already bigger, and I had to stomp a few opponents.

On the first day of new game world, you have 24 hours.  So just pick an airport that is below to 40.  Chances are, no one will base there, and if someone does, you can BK and start elsewhere within the first 24 hours without losing any time.

Go to:
Routes
Airport Information
Select Whole World
Click View Airport List

You will get a ranking of the airports roughly corresponding to demand of the airport.

Honolulu, Guam, Saipan can be fun, and niche as you need long haul planes to get to most destinations.. Could be tricky in the 1955 to start with..

well, i guess the critical line there is "favourite planes"...
- if thats the 320 or 737, you are well off almost everywhere.
- for 777/747/380 you probably have to go for some airport with a lot of demand.

i guess most one-(significant)-airport-countries give less tricky gameplays, but i have seen some really tough competition in some of them (e.g. singapore, hongkong). i was playing the last GW2 in panama and it was mostly a sandbox-game, as long as you sticked to the basic rules (max 3 fleet types, no crazy AC types).

I did my first long world in South Korea,if you are not sure then go Bahrain,Kuwait those bases good to gain experiance in the game.
It has decent demand and is out of the huzzle and buzz of top location.

IN Seoul you can do Domestic, continental and Long haul.

If you search for bases in the US then go towards Oakland,Portland,Detroit or someting like San Diego.

Demand in the Middle East is much lower in the early phases, though. Don't join in 1955 and expect the demand of the new millenium. :)

My personal recommendation would be a 2nd tier airport in a 1st tier country. Think of something like Stuttgart in Germany or Ronald Reagan in the US. Allows you to grow (hopefully without too much competition) and once you're settled in you can still expand elsewhere.
