The jet age 2 Pan AM they are using logo and livery.
As requested in an earlier post, the airline's CEO is Clipper. This one's kinda ironic since the realworld Pan American was in fact operating (and very prominent) during the timeframe covered by the current game...:(

It's Austrian Airlines in real world actually. ;)

Is Ozark still trade marked? I remember some airline using it in 1999 flying 328Jets from COU.

Names like
Ozark
Piedmont
Allegheny
Southern

are tough cuz they are regions and many companies use those names

ICEcoldair881

yeah, US airways express uses the "piedmont" callsign, and I *think* there's an airline in Spain using the "southern" name...or it might be a fake airline that i made up.. ::)

ekaneti

Well Piedmont might be a US Express call sign, but it is also a region in the USA. Piedmont Hospital, Piedmont Road, Piedmont Electric etc are all names used in the SE USA. Ditto Ozark if you live in AR or MO. Allegheny in PA. I think these names are tough to ban.

I don't think it's that simple. Piedmont may well be a region in USA and because of that you can't trademark "Piedmont" but you may be able to trademark "Piedmont Airlines". Let's say you started an airline and wanted to call it "American Airlines" - it's an airline and it's American, both very general concepts - but American Airlines has already trademarked (?) the name "American Airlines" for use in the airline business. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer and this was basically just hand waving.  :P

Anyway, why is it so important to try and use real-life or almost real-life airline names in the game when Sami clearly does not want that to happen? Just use your imagination!

Well, it WAS a real airline (with MD80s and everything)...  And is about to be again.  The guy that ran Skybus is starting up another airline, and sure enough, it's going to be called "Jet America."

::)

(Look it up!  Google it!  Yahoo it!  True story!)

toyotaboy... get over it man. It was started AFTER I registered.

Why should I suffer because of that? Tell me toyotaboy...

Because they assuredly own the rights to the name.  Unless you filed a trademark registration, the fact that you used it first doesn't usually mean a whole lot in the world of business. Though the case likely wouldn't stick since you DID use it first and this IS just a game vs reality, sami has his rules for a reason -- he doesn't even want an airline or overzealous lawyer to get a sniff of any wrongdoing.

Besides, the airline you're referring to is "JetAmerica" that started just recently.  "Jet America" (note the space) is not a new airline and has existed for some time.  "Jet America" was also the name of an old, now-gone airline whose names you also cannot use.

So you can't hang your hat on the fact that "JetAmerica" is new.  The name violates every rule on what names you can and cannot use in the game.

Sami has assured me prior to this that old, defunct airlines could be used. (I asked about using Northeastern Airlines before on the last game and got the okay)

Why must the policy shift now, sigma?

Well if he's told you that you can, then there's certainly no problem then is there!  It's his game. :D

It was always my understanding that that wasn't the case.  But if he says so, he says so.

I got ya ;)

But, if he has in fact changed his feelings on that I would be more than happy to work it out. I'm just a little peeved about toyotaboy being overzealous about this. Especially with me being active enough to where he could message me about it before tattling on here.
