An alliance doesn't do much for your actual airline, like RL alliances do.  You get a small pax boost, but it isn't too noticeable.

The real benefit of joining an alliance is the advice and assistance you receive from other players.  There is a dedicated alliance forum where you can discuss strategy privately, and ask for favors, etc.

I still think is is incredibly worthwhile to join an alliance.

No.

It provides no material benefits at all.  If there truly is a pax difference, as has been repeated for a couple years since I've been playing, its so insignificant that I've never noticed it while joining or leaving one.

How do you know this?

Well, mostly urban legend . . .  ;D

But I do notice a small uptick, and on routes with similar competitors, similar seat types, and similar RI, etc. I do better than non-allied members.

It says so on the "join an alliance" page

The increase in pax is enough to pay for the alliance membership costs, but nothing more really.

You should watch out for alliances that deny you because you operate Russian aircraft, just speaking out of experience. ::)

istanbulairlines

to be honest with you,

regarding that this sim game is quite excellent, it has to be said that this alliance issue is totally disappointing in my opinion... I mean I am not pro but there should be some codesharing or base-share applicaitons at least..

just to be said a feedback.. :P

thanks..

Any appreciable benefits provided by an Alliance would essentially require that an Airline belong to one to be competitive.  And that's not at all what sami intends Alliances to be in AWS.

They are social organizations much like a Clan or a Guild or a Corp would be in some other online game.  You don't become a better shot in a shooter just because you joined a clan, you don't get more experience in World of Warcraft simply because you joined a guild.  Belonging to one doesn't provide any inherent benefits to your play, it doesn't make you any "better" by simple virtue of clicking the Join button, it just provides a different aspect of gameplay.  And, though it doesn't automatically make you a superior player (like automatically generating additional pax via 'codeshare' would do here) it likely will make you a better player by being around those who are better than you and learning from them -- the same as Alliances are supposed to encourage here.

Providing them with material benefits would form 'cliques' within the community exponentially moreso than already exists, groups of those who know how to game-the-game would ally together and dominate worlds much moreso than they already do, in the end the stronger players would get stronger and the weaker ones would get weaker.  Newer players would be frustrated by increased difficulty and the inability to join the 'good' Alliances and be forced to band together, which is the total opposite of what the Alliance mechanic is supposed to encourage (getting better, more experienced players to help newer ones).

Some decisions have to be made for the sake of gameplay not realism.  And this is one of them.

Just to clear up:

The Yakovlev 42/42D aircraft were just a contributing factor to you not being allowed back in.

The main reason was that you bankrupted multiple times in that game world already, and your airlines never were stable. Additionally the problem was rather the unnecessary further fleet type, as there are also 100PAX planes of the MD80 fleet (MD-88 is a bit bigger, but that is still fine). 3rd was, that you operated the Soviet ones BESIDES the western ones. Operating a fleet of Russian metal is not to be satanized in general, as I can surely imagine they work fine, if operated ONLY with other Russian planes.

Still I recommend unexperienced players not to use them, as it is a difficult challenge to keep them flying at a profit.

This was not to discriminate a person or product out of one of these countries [former USSR countries].

Well, I don't want to also. I just wanted to point out the reasons clearly, so no one gets me wrong, or your statement.
Also it was to show that it was not against Russian aircraft only, rather than just a commonality thing.

But let's just chill, and take it easy. :)
