One City state - what to do when slots are full?

Hi,

Just a curiosity question: what happens when the slots of full for airlines that are based in one city states such as Hong Kong and Singapore and Guam?  Does the game end for these airlines and it's just sit and wait? Can they expand to nearby countries?

Frogiton

Nope they sit there and manage their slots wisely, that's all you can do. But Hong Kong and Singapore have quite a few slots.

I'm pretty much stuck in the Jet Age in Prague as well. Czechoslovakia does have small cities, but are not really worth it. I also have a competitor doing very good taking many slots, he has over 100 aircraft while I have 50.

Just wait for the new year so new slots appear.

So does this mean if you base yourself in HKG you can not set up a base in China, so I am guess that is also true for the Chinese Airlines they can not set up base in HKG if there main base is in China?

Cheers

Maybe they can do so after 1997. Historical status of the country is simulated in AWS.

Yes that is why I was asking :-) I tend to stay away from the really large airports but I am always interested in this type of information.

HKG vs. China basing is not available, as that's how it seems to be in reality too - though no firm facts on this but HKG seems to retain it's previous status pretty much still.

Should HKG be included with the UK as the UAE countries & Singapore were in the 60's & 70's? It isn't in the game ???

You can write a strongly worded letter, that airports should expand based on demand for slots...  ;)

Yes, I believe this is still the case. Ever since the handover, HKG has become a Special Administration Region (SAR). So techincally while HKG has been handed back to the Chinese government, HKG has the the right to self-govern for 50 years past the handover. Therefore they are still operating governments independant of each other and that is why there is still no basing allowed between China and HKG. This same situation applies to Macau as well, but I'm not sure when their right to self-govern will end.

You can always upgrade to bigger aircrafts on the existing routes and that will set free some slots.  :)

I have a girlfriend from Hong Kong SAR. and she informed me that China and Hong Kong are two seperate countries, although they are linked in name; their government (atleast at this point) are seperate.

I had a very successful airline in Hong Kong, but i bailed out of Hong Kong for this reason.

exactly like WilZak said (i hadn't read his comment when i originally posted this)

As far as I can remember - China and Kong Kong/Macau are separate as with what jdsnively said above. But I still see Chinese airlines basing in Macau! Why?

As far as I know, you can't have "focus cities" in Airwaysim without having a base at the same city.

yeah - at one point in ATB Macau was ruled entirely by Chinese airlines... I saw one start up there....let's just say it wasn't there for long. :-\

jest

I based at HKG on MT2 and despite all restrictions i came up on top at the end.

Those Chinese airlines may have right to operate flight from different Chinese cities to HKG, but they are not based in HKG......

When you are flying from A to Z to VHHK, it seems VHHK is the hub, but actually not.
