AWS meeting Amsterdam

I was under the impression that the vast majority of AWS players were in the travel industry.  I am sure that we would have enough connections to set up three (NA, EU, Asia?) INEXPENSIVE meetings for the purpose of meeting our opponents and consuming beverages.  I would propose that whatever setup we could arrange should be universally accessible to all.  How about a challenge as follows:

1.  $150 airfare from (almost) anywhere to one of the three meetings
2.  $50 GOOD hotel (per night)
3.  $50 conference fee - includes two meals; AWS t-shirt; meeting room; cover Sami's airfare to be there.

Locations could be:

AMS or other EU
ORD, YYZ, ATL, or LAX
SIN or other Asian

Anyone accept the challenge?

GM sounds good , but problem is $150 airfare is decent for guys in EU to travel around but what about Americas, Asia, Ocenia & Africa???
That price tag may not suit all those.

Travelling to the US is a pain (honestl) with all the strict visa procedures etc etc.

Good Idea GM, may be we may have to increase airfare budget a bit for non-eu guys and gals.

Southwest offers relatively cheap tickets to anywhere in the US. I recently got a ticket from Tucson (southwest USA) to Washington DC (northeast USA) for $108.

How about coordinating those regional meetings on the same day then you can link up with a video conference meeting between NA and Europe.

I'd think about farnborough...but I guess only meeting 2 guys would not make it :P

so I think we should at last be 5 or so :)

but for me is the question how to get there.. DUS-LHR... no problem
but LHR-Farnborough? I'd dislike to travel 5hrs to there :P

Jona L.

definetly agreed to GM!!

nice idea of doing kind of an expense plan :)
though I'd get to AMS by train, since a plane would take longer :D

Jona,1 hr by train or bus, cost around £9.90 return ticket :)

My Idea is "GREAT" LOL, GM's is relaistic and much more realistic :) We have to work on it.

or MAY BE GUYS

meet in Stockholm, Sweeden in JUMBO hotsel  (747 turned into a hostel ) now that would be real cool :)
check this out: http://www.jumbostay.com

I'd also like to add Dulles to the list.  There is a newer Smithsonian hangar there with some AMAZING planes.   Some examples include an SR71, the original 707, a Concorde, and so much more.

$150 USD or even CAD is hard to come by.... I know that any Canadian can just take a road trip to the US (no visa required) and catch a Southwest, JetBlue or similar flight and be anywhere in the US for dirt cheap. I recommend YYZ though as we have one person who works for AC here, and my friend's dad handles security so we could work something out that would give us a great please to meet that isn't to the general public. That being said, there is not much in Toronto to see that's worth coming, apart from maybe the ACC, Skydome and the CN Tower. That's the main attractions and  to be honest, they're not all that exciting IMO (i may be biased though because i live in Toronto ;D). the only real interesting one is the CN Tower. that's a good attraction, even for a Canadian. Maybe the Smithsonian idea would be the best. ;D

I am prepared to travel to Finland, but the problem is that it is not the most centrally located place in Europe. UK and Netherlands both have good connections via LCC, but even the bigger airliners like Luftwaffe and KLM offer good value tickets if you book well in advance.

At Amsterdam - Lelystad airport (EHLE) (opening to LCC in 2013) there is a KLM 747 which can be booked for a meting... but the 747 hostel sounds nice as well.

Ehm how do you explain your wife or girlfriend you are going to Amsterdam for a weekend???

You'd need physical evidence of any such meeting or you will have a LOT to explain at home :D

and with my love for pot (yes, the green leafy substance), my wife will never believe me either.

Wish I could go, I doubt I would have the time though.
When are we planning to do this meeting ?
I m in Montreal, Canada - so YYZ is workable or even NYC or Boston, or Montreal
btw, that JUMBO hotel in Stockholm is just amazing  :o - I wish I was closer that would be a terrific meeting place for AWS !

That city legalized everything God has forbidden...

Are you that Christian, that you avoid Amsterdam for just being a little more liberalized than the rest of the world?

[not that I have anything against Christians, or Christianity, I just didn't think there were such fundamentalists stilll... {btw. my mother is minister in our parish, and my dad used to be} but maybe that is the reason for my atheism, and agnosticism...]

I didn't mean the pot only..

They want to legalise is nation wide so the state can put taxes etc. on it and get the business out of criminal hands. It's being sold anyway... So why not control the business and aply huge taxes on the stuff like sigarettes ans alcohol.

like north america. ;D

North America is a continent my friend....

North America:
Pot is more dangerous then everyone carrying a loaded gun....

Europe:
Tax fraud is a more criminal offence then raping a woman or killing someone...
