I was thinking this little before the ranking topic appeared on the feature request page. I know this would require big amount of coding but one can dream, right?

1st stage:

Like any current game with whole world and mayby 200-300 players.

2nd stage:
After some ten years of 1st stage the 2nd stage begins:
-200 new players spots
-new players are only able to base (including artificial "2nd bases") to "small" airports
-Baseing to medium and bigger airports is possible, but cost lot of money

-Old players' funds are equaled: Keep current loans, reset bank accaount to $1M and add a loan equal to value of all owned and ordered (40% or 4 month lease for new or leased aircarft)
-Old players' operating costs (everything!) start to rise little by little to the point where there is no way to survive

Winners are:
Last 1st stage player to transport at least xxxxxx pax per month
2nd stage player with something similar that are now discussed in feature request forum.

remarks:
2nd stage should be interesting
new players fly small routes - small routes become first uneconomical for old players because of the riseing overhead costs
New players compete their way to the top. One have to able to run a regional airline before one can move to high profit long haul
later into 2nd stage there should be more used aircraft available as the first stage players go bust
This would keep the game interesting longer for the 1st stage players and offer a whole new starting point for 2nd stage players

Do you like the idea?

I think it's fine the way it is.

Any comment why not or could something similar be good?

I'm looking for a more scenario like game play instead the current sandbox games.

Different scenarios with set objectives might be interesting. What you suggested is far too artificial and "game-like" (this is a simulation?).

I like this idea in some way, but it need some changes (but no idea what to change and how).

This is of course only my point of view, but how realistic is the current system where you enter to empty market?

no, and i would say it is definatly not an empty market now.

just as in the real world you have to choose your routes carefully and fit the plane to that route.

once you get big enough to compete with the "big boys" (and just as in real life) you better have the cash in the bank to back you up.

the "big boys or girls" are soon coming to the stage where life is going to get tough for them, running big expensive planes, lack of slots and more competition. I have noticed that newer smaller slower airlines tend to be more streamlined in their business plan so can be in a better position to compete.

and don't forget when the fleet upgrades start it's going to be harder for them to offload older fleet stock.

so in all be patient the profits are there and i've seen lots of top 20 airlines go bust for 1 reason or another.

Kontio

It's not realistic at all and lots of other things aren't, but of course you can't have everything. If we entered a world with realistic airline systems already in place and all good routes pretty much saturated, a significantly smaller number of players could play in each game world. Still the progress would be incredibly slow. This is a completely different matter from setting an arbitrary date at which established player-driven airlines would suddenly lose all their assets and costs would start to rise with the sole purpose of eventually bankrupting all players.

ban2

and what is the point of playing a game where you know you will be bankrupted in the end??

i don't see the challenge there...
