Work is currently in progress to introduce a completely rebuilt aircraft image library to the game.
The entire aircraft image catalogue, covering ~700 aircraft variants, is being rebuilt from scratch with consistent image quality, historical accuracy, and era-accurate visual styling.
All black-and-white, blurry, and otherwise poor quality legacy images from the very origins AirwaySim will be replaced. At the same time over 200 new high-quality source images are being added to eliminate duplicates and outdated material.
In the first release cargo aircraft will have an all-white appearance, but all passenger and combi variants will feature a wide variety of historically appropriate liveries, providing a visually evolving aviation history timeline. Image resolution will also increase, providing a clearer and more detailed visual representation of each aircraft, maintaining strict historical and technical accuracy.
In this project we are using automated tools to streamline the project and reduce the workload. Each aircraft source image is rebuilt to remove real-world liveries and markings, replacing them with clean, generic, era-appropriate airline color schemes. For long term support and management, a new set of backend tools have been introduced to manage the image library, allowing controlled image regeneration from source material and flexible updates to aircraft liveries when needed.
We hope to implement this new major improvement into all running games during February.
