Server downtime expected shortly

Some users may have noticed occasional issues with the game world

'clock' lately, mainly in the 'Air Travel Boom' game. The in-game

timer/clock has stopped about 3-4 times during the last month, every 5

days or so, for about an hour or two until administration has come

online to reset the calculation.

We have been tracing the issue

and have found that the probable cause for this is a bug in the server

core software (ie. the server 'operating system') that causes a memory

leak and thus a system halt after a certain period of uptime. After

some further investigation it has become apparent that there is no

single simple patch for this issue so instead we have elected to change

the core software of the server to another brand that is also used on

our other servers. This AirwaySim server is using the older / other

software as it was commissioned 1,5 years ago and since then we have

changed to another core software in the new servers (used in other

projects).

So we'll be updating also this server's core software

to the new status. This however is a complete re-installation of the

system and it will take a few days all-in-all. We will be moving the

whole AirwaySim service to another server so that the website and

simulation worlds will stay open, and at the same time we can work on configuring this current server with the new software.

We

will proceed with the update works immediately during the upcoming

days. This may cause occasional downtime to our services but they

shouldn't be longer than 30 minutes each.

Unfortunately this

extra work means also less time available to code the AirwaySim's new

features and prepare for the needed changes for the next game worlds so

in other words this probably means a slight delay for the start of the

new worlds. But the software update being done is necessary in order to

maintain a high level of uptime on our servers.
