Title: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Sami on January 21, 2008, 10:51:53 AM
Some screenshots from random subpages of the game.

Please note that these are just cutouts from the actual pages (to get them to the forum's required size without loosing much quality), so all the menu's and site layouts are not visible.

Please note that there are more images on the next pages of this thread, all the way to the last page!

Wonderfull. Did you ever think about a box version of the game - to buy it simply & play at home against the computer or w/friends on LAN ?
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: jmi on January 22, 2008, 04:48:23 PM
Well, that is quite impossible as this is web based game. It needs some web server where it can run. Also it needs some database behind web system. I can say that it is not easy task to do such installed what can install everything what it needed.

So, behalf of Sami, i can say there will not be "home" version of the game.

Hi..
As this game can be played even from the beginning of jet-era (1950's?) when the USSR (as well as Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, West Germany, DDR aso.) still existed..

Wish I had signed up for this earlier, so that I could manage an airline by now. Keep up the good work, and soon we'll all be able to play!  ;D

Cheaper, as pricing is per game basis, and games are definitely longer than a month (I'd suspect around two months the shortest ones normally but depends on each game individually).

Last week has gone in building the calculation script to cater the needs of the big games. It's now pretty much complete.

Here's a few quick pics of the a-bit-improved country & airport info pages. Country info is a new page that lists all the airports in a country, and the single airport info page is smaller than before (grew too large when airport had many routes). The airport info page will be soon also added with links to airport slot allocation view and "routes from/to this airport" view.

There's at least Swansea airport missing. I'll try to find the data and send them to you. But Swansea is close to Cardiff so it will still look empty in the northwestern part. Well, if it is so, we won't invent airports !

just a little question.. when you schedule a return flight (f.ex AAA001 LHR-JFK-LHR). does the flight back from jfk to lhr get the same flight number as the one from lhr to jfk (AAA001) or does it automaticly get AAA002 which is normal i.r.l.?

Hi,

Looks very addictive. I also cannot wait for the launch. looks very accurate too. Just two things...

1....I noticed that the YSSY Sydney airport has no curfew in the game. In the realworld Sydney has a Curfew from 11pm to 6am.  Im not sure if you want absolute accuracy with the realworld or not.

2. Is there an option to select your handling agent at each airport etc (choose between Menzies Aviation or Swissport etc), with differences between them in  costs, efficiency, delays due to slow cargo delivery etc?

Great screenshots keep em coming.

Lots of airports are still missing the night curfew, so expect to find more of those missing (report as you spot 'em). YSSY added now however.

Handling agent is currently very simple, everyone have the same fee at each airport but may be expanded in the future.

Google has just released a browser plugin of Google Earth.
Does this have an impact on your game in the way to display that airport stuff and planes and routes and all that stuff?
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Sami on May 30, 2008, 02:56:48 PM
Probably there's no use of such plugin.

(edit: it also seems to require a separate plugin installation to the browser, so most definitely no thanks then.)

AWS now supports also the historical airports as airports can now open and close according to what has happened in real life. This way it's possible to model for example the new airports in Oslo or Hong Kong. The database is missing most (if not all even) of the historical airports but system is technically prepared for that anyways.

Does this mean that 9/11 will happen, and there will be an airline slump? But then cheaper airlines (budget airlines) benefit from this, like in the real world? OH! and not ofrgetting that bomb plot, and several other attacks like that Glasgow one, so these incidents are all going to happen yes?

Umm I don't think any airports actually closed permanently because of 9/11?

Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Budjet on June 02, 2008, 05:20:12 PM
Yes, I seem to remember all of America's airspace being grounded, and with the terror plot, the Uk's was, and most american airspace was too...
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Sami on June 02, 2008, 05:31:41 PM
No, it's not that... Means that if a old airport in country is closed and a new one is opened to replace it (for example) it now also appears in game too (previously all airports were usable from 1950-2050 and not taking account when they were really opened or closed in real life).

A separate "events" module that creates historical and/or random effects that affect the world economy is planned for later addition (after the game is released, as that's not essential in any way).
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Budjet on June 02, 2008, 06:52:55 PM
I see  ::)

In a game, if you reach say, September 11, 2001 or the terror plot, what ever date that was... The airspace of certain are or aren't closed?

Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3

Fleet commonality in the works... In this game it's economical to operate a fleet of similar aircraft.

Here's the engine part. As you can see besides of the regular maintenance cost you need to pay also a fixed cost for each of the engine models your fleet has (cost depends on the size of the aircraft, number of planes in fleet, and also of the general maintenance cost level of the plane model etc) - as you need spares and so on... So even the choice of engines is important, not just their fuel usage, payload carrying and range, but also the fleet commonality.

I hope the game doesn't get to complicated, I'll be in a right mess, not knowing where to start, what I need doing etc, will there be your own personal message board or something, telling you what you need to do, or advisors (abit like a tutorial, you know, telling you what needs doing...)?  :o ???

Well, Im about to post my airlines new news..... we had some cutbacks and our Lyon and Zurich hubs closed and now we're focusing on random, holiday charters at strange times and frequencies from LHR and only LHR. We plan to first build a strangely timed schuedling across the UK to draw pax to LHR and then funnel them to our amazingly popular Portugese destination, Porto or Oporto :) We hope to start service to the lovely Basque city of Bilaboa and several other domestic destinations ;D (We currently also have LHR -DUB, Newcastle, MAN, and few other destinations ;D

This game gets better and better. Like I said previously I look forward to playing it hours on end. The scale of realism injected will make it a thinking man's game I hope rather than what's happenning to other airline SIMs where players just plonk aircrafts on a route and hope they make a profit.

The game works in 'accelerated real time' mode, meaning that time moves on day by day, but faster than in real life. So there was a need to know when certain date in game comes in real life... So made a small converter for that. The conversion result is displayed in your local time, which you can set from the profile page.

As mentioned elsewhere players can also lease planes from other players now. And naturally also buy them as own too (which has been in game for long time, the player to player lease is new).

Here's a pic where other airline has leased one my Caravelle's. And another pic of the detailed view where you can determine if the player is allowed to extend the lease beyond the initial deal.

The player who leases the plane is responsible for staff, maintenance etc. ACMI lease is not modeled but perhaps in the future later on. It's already rather complicated though.

Here's the game's "front page"...

It's a bit cramped but only idea is to give a quick look of the major numbers and happenings. Some warnings will be also printed to the top of the page if there are any. The 'world events' section is unfinished, only includes info about airports being opened or closed.

Any ideas or further wishes about it?

New route management page (still a bit work in progress there..). There's now an easier way to view the routes, and you can sort it by profit and load factors. Multi-delete feature also added.

And also added a feature that you can select the preferred airport code format, either 4-letter ICAO or 3-letter IATA.

A while since last screenshots.. But working with the simple alliance feature now:

Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Sami on December 04, 2008, 01:40:25 PM
- New feature, staff strikes.

The staff can strike if all these are true: a) are using manual staff adjustments, b) staff requests payraise, c) you do not accept the payraise within certain time. Then the staff will first warn of the strike (email is sent too!), and then you have 60 game days time to act before they may strike.

Raising their wages to requested level will clear the strike. When staff is on strike the amount of canceled or delayed flights depends on which staff group is on strike. Also a threat of strike will lower employee morale even more and cause additional delays as staff is unmotivated and frustrated to the firm.

Wow Sami.... 324k a month for 26 Tu-134s?!  That's crazy.

That has to be one of the lowest per plane operating cost in the game (jet wise)... hey.. share the secrets too you know  :-[

By comparison.. my SE 210 10Rs have better fuel econ, longer range and lower crew requirements... but @ 31 aircraft, I pay 1.1M per month in training/admin costs..

So the question is.. given the extra crew, lower fuel econo, does the -134 operating at a lower cost at the end of the month?

Oh, everyone watching, this goes to show you how detailed AWS can get  ;)
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3
Post by: Sami on December 06, 2008, 10:46:32 AM
Your sum is higher as you have more aircraft types in operation. (the number of different types raises the number, not the number of planes operated - though if you have 500 aircraft and 10 fleet groups, it doesn't matter). Plus that pic is from the test server I think so it's probably from earlier year too (cheaper back then).

But I have to tweak that a bit as I actually figured now that it didn't take into account one variable from the database which is a part cause for it.

I found out about this site and game just yesterday, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since.
I really hope the last snags get fixed soon so the game can bee released to public.

A thing I have thought about. Is this game only made for pax operations? or could you also create a cargo airline?
I haven't seen any screens on the cargo management part of the game so I figured there might be non?

Anyway, keep up the good work Sami!
Title: Re: Screenshots vol 3

Hi,

I'll answer so Sami et al. can concentrate on development... ;)
(I'm not part of the development, so I can only tell how I've understood.)

At the moment there is only pax. I believe 1st version will be this way.

But there is plans to include cargo, the game-model supports it. So most likely you will later be able to fly both pax+cargo or just cargo planes.

I don't know if the prices have been decided yet, but the system is somewhat like this:
- You can buy AirwaySim credits (with various online purchase methods; credit card, paypal etc)
- Each game costs AWS credits. In beta price has been 10 credits per game.
- If you stop playing in the middle of game, you will get "unused" credits back to your account.

I don't know, if you can try the game before buying credits, or if there will be a demo-game you could try before buying. Propably yes.
