Title: When do you know you have played too much AirwaySim?
Post by: Ilyushin on October 18, 2010, 03:51:11 PM
- When you go to an airport in real life and you are completely impressed by airline lounges
- When you start advertising near the local grocery store for your virtual airline
- When you immediately think about AirwaySim after you ordered your iPhone 4G and got told it has a big order backlog of a few months
- When you are wondering where all of the Fokker 50 aircraft and Saab aircraft are on LHR
- When you laugh at airlines flying CRJ-100/-200 aircraft
- IFE? What is that?
- When you ask the supermarket manager what his CI is

I'm not that good at this, but maybe you guys can come up with better ones ;D

- you make tons of AWS Demotivators
- you write a newb guide
- you keep coming up with oft stupid features
- you spend the time looking for grammar errors
- you know what the Magic Carpet rule is

- when your first question to the doctor upon emergency delivery to hospital is whether they have wlan access (I did it for real!)
- when you start using PC and Mac in order to ensure access to aws in case of computer breakdowns
- when accessing aws becomes the first morning priority before coffee and bathroom
- when you start lecturing innocent co-workers about having a bias towards smaller planes on short-hauls
- when you attempt to convince friends and relatives that flying Tupolevs and Yaks is absolutely risk free as you are familiar with the numbers

- When you have a brilliant Mac at home and use a college computer with Internet Explorer 8.
- When you start looking for an actual Tristar or DC10 at Heathrow.
- When, in History lessons, you start thinking about which aircraft Napoleon used.
- When you're in 3 or more game worlds
- When it takes an hour to schedule your daily quota of new aircraft.
- When you watch the news and think "It's easy to keep cabin crew happy Willie!"
- When you start to think: "I could do this for real...."

When you know you should worry:
- "I could do this for real with all those Antonovs & Ilyushins at Heathrow..."

- When your at the airport and your plane is delayed and the first thing you do is check your own airlines delay percentage.
- When your at the airport and look at airline route map and then look on AWS to see if the airports are on the game.
- Buy a wifi pass on your flight just to check on your airline.
- Get up a hour early in the mornings before work just to make sure your airline is ok.
- Clock turn around times at the airport and then wonder why you cant turn planes that fast.
- Look at a airplane and wonder when its last A check or B check was.
- Your family ask how your company is doing when you visit them.

Similar thing happened to me tho I was pulled over for using a "handheld device" while driving... I just had to make sure my new planes had routes and I didn't even notice he was driving next to me and staring at me for the last 5 mins....

I've gotten honked at for not seeing the light turn green, but I've never sat there long enough to get pulled over.  Did you get ticketed?

You waste several hours renumbering hundreds of routes in a more systematic fashion. This doesn't get your airline any money; it just looks nicer on the list of destinations and airlines page.

Like London - Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth I fly the ALL (usually, just that I am not far enough in DotM yet :P ) I fly them all NONSTOP in a B772LR, why don't BA or Qantas fly it?!
Title: Re: When do you know you have played too much AirwaySim?
Post by: raptorva on November 21, 2010, 10:00:27 PM
well the reason why routes like that aren't flown non-stop is because a) the passengers would get rather roudy after being crammed in a metal tube for that long and b) both airlines have made Singapore a hub of sorts (mostly Qantas) and stop there to pick up and drop off connecting passengers.

I fly quite often between Melbourne and Singapore on Qantas 744's (8 hours) and then switch to a Turkish Airlines (usually A343) for (12 hours) to Istanbul followed by a flight from Istanbul to Izmir on a B738 or A321 (1 hour). Let me say from experience that the stops in Singapore and Istanbul are most welcome. 4 hours hanging around Singapore Intl feels amazing, the ability to move freely wherever you want.

When, while buying yourself a used car, you ask the dealer with a completely straight face when the vehicle was last C-checked  ::)

And when having realised your mistake and got the MOT details, you negotiate buying the vehicle on the basis that the cambelt is changed, and still think to yourself "great - that's my D-check pushed back 6 years!"  8)

Last night I dreamt about my nephew loginning into my account and leasing 6 or 7 of those small airplanes; antonovs, Baes, cessnnas etc.  all different types with 3 year leases. I had two pay like 150 mil to get rid of all of them. I didnt have that much money in my account, because I just ordered 10 X 777-300ers, I was also cursing as there were no planes on the used market, and that Dan Dantes was going to take up all slots and bankrupt me.
The funniest thing was, I saw that I was losing money, but not in the usual daily basis, but it was working as a countdown timer, I was losing like 10000 USd per second, oh my god, I woke up in tears.

That's how I know I'm playing too much AWS. Damn it Sami, I was addicted to diet coke, and now this...

- When you complain to your deputy prinicipal about blocking AirwaySim because it isn't Facebook or an ordinary flash game site, when they allow "Maths Online" when it consists of no maths and fun games such as popping balloons using monkeys. ... (Don't ask! )
- When you book marked AirwaySim on your school laptop even though you can't connect to it.
- When you tell your family how much fuel planes use per hour, rounding it to the nearest 10 kg/h.
- When you considered getting a job so you could have some money... to play AirwaySim.
- When the time for a game to open is something reasonable in Europe and something RIDICULOUS in Australia and you either stay up or set your alarm so you're awake to set up your Home Base and get the best used aircraft. <-- happened numerous of times

Today I caught myself counting the load factor of local commuter bus... :-[ The yield didn't look too good because most of the passengers were either elderly or young enough to buy half priced ticket.

When everyone at work asks you how the used aircraft market treated you today, and they can normally tell by your mood...

When you work for an airline, are surrounded by fellow airline nerds, and you are still the "geek who plays that airline game all the time"....
