Buying planes and not flying them

I noticed that a few members of elite alliance are buying up aircraft and then not scheduling them. They are just sitting unscheduled.

Two possibilities for that:

either

a) they ordered a large number of airplanes and then just don't find the time or motivation to schedule them (happens to me on a somewhat regular basis)...

or

b) they wait for all the aircraft of a new type to be delivered, in order to swap the whole fleet in one sitting. This is often done in order to avoid the "4th fleet penalty" as aircraft commonality costs in the game skyrocket as soon as you have 4 fleets, if you're running a large airline with multiple 100s of airplanes.

Rules state that if plane is purchased from another player, the purchasing airline must have real usage for it  otherwise it can be considered cash transfer from airline to another and subject to penalty.

For me, I'm lazy.

Isn't it also ok to be running a leasing side-business, buying high demand aircraft if you have the spare cash and leasing the planes out to people who don't?

Gotta say, the fact that multiple airlines are feeding each other a fleet type so that they all can be mega operators of various types really detracts from this game. It's why I probably never make it to end of game because all sense of realism goes out the window and its no longer fun when there is no chance of being able to compete against these mega players.

I mean look at fly2away, price dumping fares to 55% standard. Fleet of 220 E195E2's yet the plane has only been delivered for 2 years in game. Even if they were getting 3 per month, thats still only 72 frames...

I actually notice that some large corp is having up to 7 fleet types and still make huge profits. What have changed in game dynamics? Do they only schedule 3 types at each airport? And yes, seems to be a wide buy/sell cooperation for some players. Isn't a problem, but should be made easier for players that doesnt communicate on other platforms than Airwaysim webpage. So should be some form of contracts for automatic schedule sale/lease of frames on build list towards other team/alliance members, to make the game fair for all.

the airwaysim change log detailed in the summer of 2025 some radical changes to commonality. Previously commonality started kicking in hard at about 330 aircraft, and you would be paying a billion a month (120% of other expenses) if you had 1000 planes and 4 types. Now, in MT, I have 2300 aircraft, 7 types and commonality is at 4% of my expenses. So not worth bothering about. I would have been bankrupt decades ago under the old commonality. Fuel and salaries occupy my time.

For buy/sell, it's an advantage of being in an alliance that members work together in many ways, one of which is helping each other with new and used aircraft. I've bought a fair few old aircraft from alliance mates that are getting rid of them. I win in that I get a cheap frame, they win in that they are clearing planes off the books they don't want. Most alliances use Discord to chat. Airwaysim also has a discord channel, so people could use that to coordinate. Perhaps airwaysim should have it's own aircraft buy/sell Discord sub-group?
