Sami

Just a reminder.

The games will start at tomorrow evening. Estimated opening time is around 19 UTC.

carloscarlos

just great!!! thanks for the reminder Sami! ;D

Will the game start in the evening in Finland?

Sorry, I'm not good with timezones.

Runner

UTC=GMT=Zulu Time. Finland is in UTC+3. So to sami, it's probably 2200 when he launches the game.

I was thinking the game would start at 00:00 in Finland on 04-17-09. Europe is 6 hours ahead of me (American East Coast). So the game would've start everywhere a half hour from now. Oh well, at least it's almost here. :)

Now I've just got to go and have a long hard think about where I'm going to start my next airline...  ;D

Oh an Sami, check your PMs.  ;)

Monk Xion

NorgeFly

Sami,

I just wanted to check...  You did say that the game would be on hold for the first 24 hours so that everyone joining the game would be able to start at the same time right?  If that's correct, then the game clock will start to roll at 19:00 UTC on Saturday the 18th correct?

Thanks,

Tom

For the previous games, the 1st game day has lasted 24 hours real time. This means, that if the game starts on 1st of January 1990, the day will turn to 2nd of January only after 24 hours real time. This way, everyone has the time to make their first move (order their first airplane and put it on a route), thus no1 gets a huge advantage by being the first to enter the game. However, the sooner one enters the game the better, because even if there are a lot of planes in the used aircraft market when the game starts, those who enter first will get the best (biggest, cheapest and newest) planes and others will have to go with whatever they can find.

If I am right in thinking you are 7 hours behind me in the UK then it will be 1pm in Idaho when the game starts... but I am not 100% sure...hope that helps

I think so as well. If it is 8pm UK time (GMT), then mountain time should be (GMT-7), thus being 1pm, right? And Pacific time would be an hour before that (GMT-8).

However, sami posted that it would start around 19 UTC time (19 GMT time). 19=7pm, so we're all thinking an hour too late, right?

Maybe I'm confusing myself...  :P

Brockster, you are correct, except that its Daylight Saving Time here in the UK so we are GMT-1 (I think!) right now. Not sure how DST works in the US.

British Summer Time (BST) is GMT/UTC +1 so game should start at around 7pm GMT/UTC which is:
9pm Central European Time
8pm British Summer Time
3pm Eastern Time
2pm Central Time
1pm Mountain Time
12noon Pacific Time

Gant

19:00 GMT/UTC = 15:00 (3 PM) US Eastern Daylight Time and 12:00 (12 PM) US Pacific Daylight Time

One Hour to go! I am going to try a smaller airport this time. I know I probably won't win, but I'll still have fun and won't get so stressed out worrying about the competition :) Plus, I'll still be able to have time to run my "real" company.
I wish Sami would possibly consider having a separate rankings area for Airlines based at Small Airports and Medium Airports. This is such a great game!

I agree - perhaps there could be a some sort of coefficient that is determined by airport size.  This would mean more airports would be served and everyone would not flock to the largest.

Maybe in the next one...

Not long  ;D
