Remember when someone bankrupted and all of that airlines's planes instantly appeared on the used market?    Since there wasn't a limit to how many you could grab big airlines got huge instantly

LemonButt

Remember when you could have magic carpets...I once flew nothing but Dash-8's out of ATL in a 100% business class config.  My profit margins were insane.

Remember when it was actually possible actually to BK someone ?

Remember A-B-C-B-A routes ?

Remember unrestricted used market ?

Remember when 777's were a death sentence and E-Jets ruled the air ?

Ahhhhhh...the good old days

swiftus27

Leases 772s are still a death sentence

LemonButt

Remember when you could fly Russian metal profitably?  Neither do I.

dmoose42

Is russian metal a type of cereal?

I've started quite a few airlines with 722Adv, as long as you use them on short thick routes with some premium pax and ditch them for 752s before fuel or D checks catch up with you, they can do well.

EDIT: Ah, okay, I just noticed you wrote 772, not 722. Thank dog for dyslexia  ;)

Without hard competition, and right route choice, they can make very decent money

All well saying that, but AWS is far from competition free so your comment applies to very very few airports and even then on very very few routes !

Mr.HP

I meant HARD, like 3+ airlines compete in a 300-400 pax demand route. If only 2 airlines, B772 can actually make money

For the right routes, > 5500nm are best, which the efficient A330 can't fly

but < 7000nm unless you both own the plane AND fly with zero competition.

I remember a 90% LF airline that went bankrupt flying leased 772s

Seattle

Remember the actual Magic Carpet?

Or pwning with tu154s, while everyone else was waiting for their 737 classics or airbii?  ;)

The 777 was revamped since I did that.

LemonButt

Remember when you could spend every last cent you had on aircraft leases and then go $50 million into negative cash to buy slots?
