Production Slots

I have read other threads on this topic but have not found my question answered, so here goes:

When I order an Aircraft, I find that the first delivery is some months away from my order.
I imagine this is the case for any airline / player.
However, there are tons of free production slots that are unfilled and will most likely remain so because of above mentioned mechanism.

I realize that the offset between the deliveries are in protection of other players, but I can't quite grasp why I can't receive my first Aircraft from an earlier, free production slot.

Thanks for your input.

They do not have planes sitting around the tarmac waiting for someone to order it. If you make an order they actually have to build the plane.

The theory behind this is that when you order the aircraft, it takes certain number of time for all the parts to be constructed.

So for example, if the manufacturer knows that he needs wings for 10 aircraft for June final assembly, the order is placed in January.  The production line of wings is set up so that 10 are delivered in June.

Now suppose it is June, and you see and empty slot in the production line in June.  If you order your aircraft, making it the 11th order for that month, the manufacturer does not have 11th set of wings (and bunch of other parts) to be able to assemble your aircraft.
