New player and I have a few questions

Hello everyone! I started playing AWS not by choice. I'm a college student and we have to play AWS as an assignment in my Airline Operations class (Poor me right?). I wasn't happy about it at first. I'm an aeronautics major, and I figured I was going to get blown out of the water by all of the business majors that are in the class. Needless to say, I am HOOKED on AWS now. I have the airline that we have to have in class, and I just started another one outside of class. I spend way too much time on it.

Anyway, I have a few friends who are interested in getting into AWS. Is it possible to start our own private worlds? I'm sure they won't have an issue playing in the public ones, but we are probably going to want something that we personally can compete in. If so, how does it work? I think I remember reading something about alliances and minimum time played/airplanes owned. Do more options appear on AWS once we meet this minimum criteria? I'm not even sure if that's what alliances are for, so I'm sorry if I'm not using the term correctly. Please inform me if I'm wrong.

Thanks in advance!

It is not possible to have a world exclusively for you and your friends, however, you can start in a world of beginners.
In this type of world, there are few players (~80), but in general, players who are starting, just like you, making them able to play with each other however they want.
Alliances are not available in these worlds, but basically they are for a group of players to help each other, either with tips or obtaining aircraft.
The game is very pleasant to play, with friends, the fun must be even greater, I hope you enjoy it.  ;D

Thanks for the input! I have had an absolute blast this semester playing AWS, and I plan on continuing playing once the semester is over.

If I remember correctly, there are indeed "private gameworlds" for "business / educational clients", but that's something only Sami (the admin) can answer.

If you wish to play competitively with your friends, I would suggest to just play together in a (new) public game world. As of now, all game worlds are already a bit "old", but new game worlds start regularly. You may also just all enter an existing game world and see if you can make it among the established airlines. ;)

You could go into an established world and all start airlines in the same country to compete more directly with each other. A place like India has a handful of bases that are similar enough that you could all start in different bases and eventually expand into each other. You'll have other competition too, but being in the same country would be a fun challenge if the country is big enough.

Several universities and other educational institutions are using AirwaySim as part of their courses. :)
