I tried to order 747s the other day but i got a message saying there were no production slots available. When i checked the slot availability there were zero orders for the type and no slots available beyond 2006 but shows the aircraft is in production. I checked the aircraft news page and theres no notice that the line would be closed if no orders were secured. Am i missing something? Can a production line disappear with no notice?

we're missing a few bits, what gameworld and what year is it now? How many 747s did you try and order? Can you cut/paste the exact message?

My guess would be is there is not enough time left in the gameworld for all the 747s requested to be delivered. Drop the order number and retry and order. A bit later on the order may compress and you may be able to add 2 or 3 extra airframes as a later order.
