African market... boring... uninteresting... Please make it HOT. :-)

The huge black continent is nearly uninteresting... But it needn´t to be any longer.

It would be great if you could implement the African open skies agreement of 2018 to the next long term games  :)

With this agreement this would be a pretty cool... new experience.  :)

Actually, there was already something similar being discussed:

(this was only one of the 2 threads on this matter)

Quite interesting already, but your intel makes it a little bit more realistic, even though I'd like to see that kind of feature from the start, and not only for late games.

2nd point: huge countries with relatively high demand compared to the rest of the continent (South Africa, Egypt, possibly Algeria) would have the ability to swallow players from smaller countries within a minute, thus such a common airspace with shared basing rights should, in my opinion, only be applied to countries of similar size, giving similar capabilities to players within these groups.

The current problem: In this "smaller" (African) countries there are no companies at all. (I bet there haven´t been any in past, too.  :P)
In 2018 there are only a few companies all over Africa... Maybe the danger of dominated small country carriers is much smaller than some ceos are worrying about.
Has this been a problem in the EU OSA? ... The old AWS warriors know about it. In GW1 my home base is in Greece... Not a huge country, but because of some advantages concerning tax/staff costs, it´s possible to compete against the huge market companies in the UK/France/Germany/Spain.
It´s just what I see in this  GW1 and I apologize if this can´t be detected in other and  former GWs.  :)

Whatever: If everything stays as it is, AWS is still the most interesting game in this metier.  ;)

One usually want to have its HQ in the largest possible airport. Thus, HQing in Lagos and then open Johannesburg makes little sense, not to mention that the guy in Johannesburg with already 200+ VL a/c can crush the guy in Lagos with a 150 a/c overall fleet mainly made of small a/c, a few medium and ~50 737/A320.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be implemented the way you propose (better something than nothing, obviously), only that a little more balanced game would require to group similar countries and exclude behemoths (just like NC did in his proposal).

But whatever the solution is, I'm still in favor :)

I agree with this, its a wasteland with the current rules which is a shame.
I've only ever played with the North African countries as a base because there is easy access to Europe.
Would be a much more interesting challenge for the game as a whole if you could build an airline that was allowed to "compete" with the established hubs.

Luperco

i agree as well. I would like to try an african country in a future game but I'm worried about the fun. I like big companies and big companies require a lot of passengers. In Africa (with the exception of some northen countries) there is no much demand if based on a single country. I know it is realistic, but it is a game after all, it isn't?

I had a lot of fun in Algeria, but indeed, besides Egypt, South Africa, and, to a lesser extent, Tunisia & Morocco, there is nothing to do there. Kenyan & Nigerian(and sometimes senegalese) companies seem never to last long. Other countries simply are never played at all.

question???

i am playing out of Khartoum, why is the passenger demand at 15% for domestic routes when there are no other airports in the country???

Sami?  Somebody?  Anybody?

I think the guys in smaller countries close their airlines out of boredom, as they see no prospect of expansion as soon as they cover all they can. Or their revenue is so small that they just can't keep their fleet up to date when new aircraft prices skyrocket. I'll try this market next time.

Dear Sami

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE  listen to this!  The game would benefit so very much from a bright new lease of life by doing something worthwhile to make Africa so much more interesting.  Quite honestly, it was so underwhelming to see your recent request for more accurate Airport data that we can submit so that you (and your colleagues) can spend probably many many many hours to update data about airports around the world.  OK that would be good but quite frankly it's not going to make the game that much more interesting when there seems to be other more important things like this to address first.

Thank you if you're listening to us here.

To back this idea, here's a link to the historical company Air Afrique:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Afrique
Not a company with branches overseas, a plain one, the same in different countries.
Was founded by 11 African countries that realized that individually they would lack the power to do it on their own.
(sorry for the double-post, but we have some kind of double thread: https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/index.php/topic,71116.0.html)
