Fleet groups

I thought that using more than 3 fleet groups will destroy your airline financially. Running an airline in a GW, it made me 900 million USD loss to fly with 4 fleet groups for 3 years while I was modernising my fleet. Now, in BW, I see that some airlines use 7 or even more fleet groups and they are still making profit.
Is the optimal number of the fleet groups increased in BWs?

I am not sure if the rules are any different in Baginner's worlds.

As far as going to 4 or more fleets, it really hurts big airlines, with 300 or more aircraft, raising exponentially with number of aircraft.

The penalty is not that big for smaller airlines with fewer aircraft.
