1980s Challenge scenario is now open!

» Join 1980s Challenge

This time in our rotating series of mini-games we are setting up a new theme. Bring in the mullets and watch out for the yuppies - it's time to play in the 1980s!

The 1980s Challenge starts in January 1980 and you can play through the whole decade, up until December 1989. The overall play time, with 30 minutes per simulated day, is approximately 2½ months. The regions of North America, Europe and Asia are included in the simulation. There are no political or geographical restrictions on where you can open your bases.

This Challenge theme game will use custom settings:
  • Difficulty level: Standard

  • Aircraft: All aircraft models available

  • Regions: Asia, Europe, North America. (airports and routes in other regions are not included)

  • Cargo with City Based Demand system included.

  • No geographical airport basing restrictions - open additional bases anywhere in the world! (normal base number and aircraft number limits exist)

  • Time span: 1980-1989, 30 minutes per game day.

  • Fuel prices are customized and may not follow real world history. Random world events are included.

  • Achievements can be earned.

Some additional notes to consider:
  • We've made sure there is a good selection of new aircraft models still in production. Some models that ceased in late 1970s in real life are still in production.

  • Passenger demand levels are rather low to begin with, but will rise soon.

  • First turn is 24 hours long as usual.

(p.s. There was a small issue in sending the pre-joining announcements; you might have received it twice .. Sorry)

Passenger demand levels are rather low to begin with, but will rise soon.

Does the same apply to cargo demand as well? The demand in 1980 is lower than in current GW4 which is in 1967.

Yes I noticed the demand levels were drastically lower than GW4. It’s why I ducked out. I guess I should have read the announcement. Lol.

I participated in this world especially for some cargo experiments... if the cargo levels are so annoyingly small that you can't even fill a DC10F between FRA-TYO (2 of the biggest cargo hubs traditionally), then I might just have lost my interest too. The demand and the number of useful aircraft on UM/in storage are atrocious.

Demand may be increased by Sami, not sure that he will inject the same number of good aircraft.

Passenger demand levels are rather low to begin with, but will rise soon.

This includes naturally also the cargo demand, a bit outdated description there by mistake.
