Sudden staff cost raise

Hi All

I think that this could be a bug, but before report it I would like your opinion:

In GW#2 between week 4 and week 5 of 1977,the staff costs raise by 3 millions per week. From 29.5 mlns to 32.5.

There is no reason, in my opinion, of such high increase.

First of all, I was sleeping at the time so I cannot do anything.

I've added 7 planes to scheduled lately but I've not hired more staff as I had staff in excess due to the recent dismissing of the 21 connies.

I have all manual settings so no automatic wage increase should happened.

The number is particularly high as, usually, the staff costs raise of 3-4 millions per month with a new group of 7 very large aircrafts if I had to hire all the needed staff (and that was not the case).

Is there any other reason why the staff raise so much?

Sami could you check in some log to understand what's happened?

In the attached image you can see the big step compared with other minor step when I'have added more planes to schedule and the step down when I've dismissed the Connies (going from 3 to 2 fleet types).

Thanks.

I'm seeing the same. No dramatic fleet additions or changes yet quite a dramatic increase in staff cost in the same period.

Someone in our alliance's forum stated that it always happens in february because of 28 days (got this rise as well), but this is still a tad strange as I thought that costs were calculated on a weekly basis, not "monthly divided by number of days in a month multiplied by 7".

Moreover, I got this raise too, but "only" of 2 millions, while I have 50% more personnel than Luperco (40k vs 59k). The lower costs for personnel I have in USSR (vs Australia) don't seem quite enough to explain all that, does it? (50% less personnel, 50% more increase).

The composition of your staff is likely different - if your staff has lots of pilots for Very Large aircraft you're impacted more as they're paid so much more than others.

The cost will go back down once February is over.

Sure, but Luperco and I both got around the same number of DC-8s, and while he has more DC-9 than I have 737, my overabundant Viscounts require 3 pilots (even though those are medium and not large).

Short answer is it's February.

Long answer: staff expenses are quoted as monthly amount but are paid on a daily basis - staff costs divided by number of days in the month. Weeks do not line up to months, so for February there's usually a shoulder week on either end when February days are mixed with January or March days.

Luperco

Thank you all for the answers. Yes, soon after February is gone, the staff cost return to January level.

I never notice in all those years. There is always something to learn  :)
