Business and first class load for long haul

I'm having premium business and standard first that comes with default 777. The issue I have is the load for business and first is very low (50%) despite a 90% coach class load for a route with strong business/first demand (15%+) and very low supply. Pricing-wise... business class tickets are only 15% higher than coach.

Questions I have are as follow:

  • What kind of business and first class seats should I use for long haul flights (12h+)?
  • Do business and first take longer to pick up?

It's line dependant. From CDG(GW3), for example, a flight to JFK has 15% demand in business, and nearly 3% in First. Still from CDG, but to Dakar, it's 3.7% and 0.2%. So you need a different seat layout between two destinations to ge tthe most of your lines. If you are using the same bird on both lines, one at least will be suboptimal.

That's why it would be nice and useful to have an option: sell the first/business class seats as economy tickets. And kinda realistic.

1. It depends. If you have no competition you could potentially get away with standard business class seats.
2. Yes, business and first are more dependant on route image and company image. If you're just starting a new route it could take up to a year to fill the F/C cabins

You also can reconfigure the cabin to something matching actual route demand. There's no point in flying 10 F seats if the total demand on the route is 3.
