Hedging Fuel vs. Fuel Contracts

Currently I have fuel contracts but also want to hedge fuel. Is the option usually one or the other, or can I do both? Is the fuel price when hedging inclusive of the discount I am getting from my fuel contract or are these 2 interdependent functions? Thanks for the info!
