5108 NM Trip - Perfect Aircraft?

What is the perfect aircraft for a 5108 NM trip? (The a/c can also make a refuel stop.) The Y demand is a bit more than 300, C 45, F 15. I'm thinking a 747 but what kind?

i would personally chose an A340-300  in that exact config, Y300\C45\F15. but if your keeping with fleet comonality then go for the 747-400

Use compare aircraft page, you will learn a lot about a/c performance and that tool helps a lot in this type of decisions.

I don't have any other 747's but I have two 737-400's. Would having another a/c from Boeing keep costs down?

For that 1 route, 773. In 8/40/300 config.  That way, it can serve a number of LH 350-400 daily pax routes.

The rule of thumb for me on aircraft configs is make sure and fill F/C class on saturdays/slow days. So if I see something like 10 F and 35 C demand. My config would look something like 12/48. That way the load factor is somewhat consistent through out the week.

But thats just me  ;D

I agree with the 777-300. Its more efficient than the A340 and 747.

Maybe A330s also?

nope, the A340-300X has less fuel burn, less crew, more range but not as much capacity.

And you might be better off with the A340 for engine commonality with your 737's (CFM56-3Bx vs CFM56-5Cx) although just how much you save with this im sure Sami will be able to answer.

Of course the 777-300 is a much prettier aircraft though haha

And until your order for new a/c arrives in3 years  ;D , buy two used a310-300 (or buy them new and you'll get them in about 6 months). Route image will be 100 then b4 your new ac arrive

A330 as it has about 5200NM range when you config it as Y280-C20-F8, so you don't have to refule and pay the stupid landing cost/save time

Another big benifit is it's available already other than A340-300x, etc, which you have to wait for years then the routes has been occupied by someone else already.

From my point of view, it doesn't matter about fleet commonality or choose the best a/c to fly, the most important is: dominate the route as early as possible!
