Massive jump in cost for 4th fleet type?

I can't believe the size of the Fleet Commonality hit I just took for trying out a new A/C type.

Fleet was at:
-   86x B737 @ $7.0M /mo.
-   35x B747 @ $8.3M /mo.
- 131x  B767 @ $16.3M /mo.

I added a single CRJ just to try it out, and after adding one AC with one route, I see:

-   86x B737 @ $15.9M /mo.
-   35x B747 @ $18.9M /mo.
- 131x  B767 @ $36.3M /mo.

So, adding one 60-seat aircraft more than doubled the operating costs of my entire fleet.

What's the story here?

Thats not too bad to be fair. Normally costs are increased 3/4x by adding a 4th fleet.

RustyVenture

...but that doesn't make any sense at all?

Yes, it should increase cost to add another type, but for what reason does a CRJ make my 767s twice as expensive to operate?

its the only.part of the game I don't like. If you search the forum for 4th fleet penalty you will see a few topics about this.

I mean, any major airline needs:

- small regional feeder
- transcon narrow-body
- transcon / TATL widebody
- ULH widebody

Anyway... grumble.

it's not really a good system, however it is a pretty effective way to limit successful airline on really making that lead and destroy competition.

+1

my current biggest plane is 737, and if there was not that system, any big boy could decide to drown me under piles of smaller aircraft. Currently, they have to be cautious. Bigs can inflict pain to mediums, but are harmless to small, and that's a good thing - there is place for smaller companies. Plus it is fun : it forces you to make choices, & stik to them. Wether they are good or not.

I'm still not sure wether going to London City as a second base in GW3 was a good choice. Because it forces me to use Ejets, who have 1500 orders in backlog... while F928 are as good and much easier to get. But it would be childish to complain, as I also get the advantages of being alone in London City : you can REALLY put high prices over there. Once you get those Ejets... Anyways, that's the way my game is happening, and I have to get the better from it.
