Test our new front page!

AirwaySim will soon implement a slightly updated look to the front page.

This is part of a longer project where some aspects of the service will receive a small visual refreshening, but most importantly the focus will be on improving mobile device usability even further. In other words this means that the theme of the front page, and rest of the site later on, will remain rather similar than currently, but the layout will be further developed to work in different screen sizes and resolutions. The front page is the first step and rest of the layout will follow later. The update is mainly about the site "theme" and not the individual game interface pages.

The front page is now ready for testing, and I'd like to have your feedback on how it works. Even though the looks are pretty much the same as before, it has been actually coded from the group up to make sure everything works. Technically it now implements a responsive design that should create a suitable layout for various devices (even phones), and it has many other technical changes too - one notable being of the change of font usage (from Cufon to @font-face for those interested) so please note especially if some text font looks odd.

Please test it with all possible devices you have and post the feedback here. In case of any problems please post a screenshot if possible and always mention the device/browser/resolution or other such vital info.


Notes:

• Only front page is available there and all links lead to the current site. Some links may not work or show incorrectly (ie. login, even you are logged already) etc. since it's a test only.
  
  
• IE8 is not supported fully anymore.
  
  
• Naturally the main graphics (background, the one with all the traffic cones...) is not the final one there, since it won't be revealed just yet   (though you may have seen a glimpse of it already in some magazine adverts, but in that case please don't spoil the surprise for others)

Judging from the numerous responses there are no big issues. 

Final adjustments have been made, and the page is now ready (apart from the graphics naturally, which are not visible on this test page). Special focus has been taken to make sure the page loads as quickly as possible (= checking elements from server settings and from the page code itself).

GTmetrix gives a "page speed grade" of 99% and "yslow grade" of 94% when all extenal elements (like FB like button etc) are included. The various online testing systems tell me that the entire page is fully loaded in 1.1secs from Amsterdam and 2.7secs from Dallas. Without the external elements (FB etc.) this reduced to half.

The rest of the site will be updated later on, and like mentioned the focus will be on improving the mobile usability. The visual updates at the rest of the site will be rather minimal (for desktop users at least), so no other major changes expected other than this large front page update.

I still cringe every time those airline personnel appear. Not on my airline!  How about a pic the member chooses from their own photo collection (Pegi7 of course).
