New to this game and enjoying it, but concerned about how long I will play it before I get bored.

Anybody agree with that statement, or is there a greater strategy involved that I am not aware of?

How about codesharing agreements? IPO/Stock market?

Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated.

Well, the beginner's world doesn't have nearly as much competition nor does it have more difficult play parameters (like higher fuel prices, etc). Once you get into the "real" game worlds, the difficulty level goes up, plus you'll have some "real" competition up against those who have been playing the game for a while. At that point, it becomes far more strategic to figure out how to defeat your opponents and rule the world/airport/etc.

strategy can be to avoid competition & go where it is not...but it is by no means easier than direct confrontation. It's another playstyle I enjoy a lot, but it needs permanent attention to growth opportunites.

Plus, on long-term games, there is a lot of strategy for replacing aging fleets. I'm renewing my 737-NGs by 737-MAXs(easy, it's the same fleet group), and bombardier CRJs by A148s, and that's much more a dance. As the fleet group is different, the speed is different, the range is better, but there is no 50-seater to replace CRJ100s. Only 70 seaters for the CRJ700s & 90 seaters for the CRJ900s.

There was no obvious choice to me when the CRJ100 went obsolete. ERJs were too small, Ejets soo big & too costly at purchase, turboprops too slow & short-legged, MRJs & ARJs too far in time, and F70/100 seemed really old & vanishing fast. So I had the choice between A148s & SSJs. None were exact matches. I could have gone for SSJs & their bigger range, but A148s were so cheap that I did calculate I could go A148 with full purchase. No lease at all. Of course, it comes with a price : A148s are costlier to run. Still, I think it was the good choice. F70/100 are still in the market, but their fuel cost & purchasing costs(for longer range versions) are insane.

I own roughly 1/3 of the A148s built in the game. As the game ends in 2030, the oldest will be 21 years old. I won't seek for replacement. If the game was going further, though, I'd have to. Russian steel ages bad, and maintenance cost get prohibitive earlier than their western counterpart. But, as there will be no planes more modern than the MRJs(some are already flying now), I won't.

All that to say that having a company survive through a long game is not easy. We've seen big companies collapse. Air Ukraine was once in the top 10, did fly 732 airplanes, and did collapse economically. I'm not sure what mistake he made, but he had a few trimesters at -1B before its bankruptcy. The 2 biggest companies of the game did just settle in Schiphol, and the companies here before them must surely feel threatened. Just surviving the clash of the titans will be a big feat for him - if he manages. One of the big boys did even say that he would buy any A350 available on the used market. That's really war.

Thanks gazzzz. I like the long term aspect of the game. I'll keep at it.

I know you're probably blending game worlds, but Air Ukraine went under in GW3 largely due to not logging in and his staff going on strike. Having 4 fleet types and a few hundred A310's didn't help, but fuel never got high enough to take him out in gw3.

Villair will likely survive in AMS as there's not enough slots for the two titans to make a meaningful dent in his high profits.

There is also the alliance system to consider. By aligning yourself with a faction you'll not only get assistance with game play, but will probably make a few in game friends as well. The overarching story of this competition can be quite fun and give a further incentive to play.

Schro represents the incumbent game champions, 'Elite' as they modestly call themselves. They're filled with some of the longest serving players and win most GW's. They are big, bad and often unstoppable. Comparable to the Imperials in Star Wars. Rumor has it that many of their players are more machine than man now...

Against their might stand collections of brave souls who seek to end their dominance and bring peace once more to the AS galaxy  :)
