Discord

Some minor settings tuning have been made to our Discord channel.

There's now for example an automated personalized welcome message sent to each new user guiding them to the #generalchat channel and to our online manual's Beginner's Guide.

Twitter feed

Due to continuous technical problems with Twitter, and due to their constant/irrational policy changes the AirwaySim's "game events" feed to Twitter has been discontinued.

A live feed of the events (aircraft launches, world events etc.) can be found from our Discord.

Forums upgraded

Our forum have been upgraded to a new version.

You will need to login again since this update involves changes to the backend systems related to user accounts.

The new version of forums, SMF 2.1 is a small evolution of the current SMF 2.0 forum, but the basis remains the same. It offers an updated layout, which is mobile-compatible, and also some additional features such as better message posting tools, and better support for future upgrades.

Migration of e-mail services

The server handling our e-mails is being upgraded during the following days.

If you notice outages in email delivery from our system, or for example can't reach us from the website's contact form, please let us know using any alternate means (such as this forum, Discord or our Facebook).

New web server, updated CDN

As noted in the other thread the main web server of AirwaySim has been updated. Our data center provider remains the same (near Helsinki Finland), and the server hardware is similar than before but just a few generations newer compared to the previous machine.

At the same time today the setup of our content distribution network (CDN) was updated. The static content (images, maps etc.) is served via Amazon Cloudfront's global network to offer the best speeds for users from various locations around the world. The setup of this service was tweaked a bit and should be now fully optimized for our usage.

Discord

A few minor changes to the Discord channel.

The #announcements is now upgraded into a proper announcement channel, so you can subscribe/follow it for better notifications.

Additionally, I am trying out a new #previews channel where all previews are published. A separate channel for easier browsing / history.

Facebook

The messaging features at our Facebook page (where you can send a private message to us using Facebook Messenger) have been disabled.

Unfortunately all we see there is 5-10 daily spam messages from hacked Facebook accounts these days (none from who have "liked" our FB page by the way), since FB is unable to control the security of their user accounts from various scams. The issues started a few months back and have now escalated quite much, becoming a nuisance to the page administration, thus the messaging is disabled for now. In case our website or email ticket system is not working, there are still other ways to get in touch so no worries.
