Hi,

I searched the forums but could not find a list of countries or events which have effect on opening new bases. One is the introduction of EU in which companies based in an EU country can open a base in another one. I am curious about the old colonies. For instance, can a UK based company open a base in Hong Kong early in the game? or Singapore? UAE? Bermuda or Bahamas? Can French company in Algiers?

Can I find a list or some kind of reference data about this?

Yes, (except for HK i believe) but iirc they now lose that base when the colony breaks away.

Oh what happens to the planes and all? Returned to HQ? Losing a base would be quite depressing :)

You´d just sit on a pile of unused planes and staff without work..... There was a quite dramatic case in last JA, when somebody lost his base in french colonized Algeria overnight, because Algerian rebels took over.Sami conceded to give out warnings if something like that is bound to happen now. EU bases won´t be possible until late 90s, when EU contracted open skies, not before.

I thought rebels taking over was a complete different thing than the country becoming independent. Shouldn't the company get to keep its basing rights there?

No and no. Rebels taking over was part of the independence process. And despite of the special situations in those countries this game does not allow another base in a foreign country.
Same counts for later breaking up of USSR and later Yugoslavia. You will have to look up some of your history books to learn which countries became independent at what date to be prepared.
