Emirates to ruin OneWorld ?

Hot on the heels of the news of the Emirates (EK) / Qantas (QF) tie up, EK is now in talks with American Airlines (AA) about another code share agreement.   With QF and AA both being OneWorld members what effect will this have on Oneworld, and where on earth does this leave British Airways who previously worked closely with AA & QF ?

Is this Emirates destroying BA's alliance, and the start of a new mega alliance revolving around Dubai excluding BA ?   If so the effect on BA could be very serious at best.

Looks like good moves for the airlines that join Emirates though.  Qantas only have to fly to Dubai really and let EK do the rest for instance, which is great as nobody makes much money flying UK - Austarlia with 2 stops, and it will save QF a fortune.   EK already serve 3 of the 5 major AA hubs in the US, so now AA could possible have a slice of this cake, and all the destinations EK offer without using AA metal.

Interesting times ahead one thinks !

Yep, but what about South America? LAN is providing OW and AA with a very large coverage down here. Would AA want to lose it overnight? Don't think so.

I believe there's more to it, expect more developments soon...

EK may possibly join OW, that seems sensible if EK wanted to work with BA also, but BA are in advanced talks with Qatar at present.  No idea which way this is heading, as ArcherII says I look forward to the next developments.

EK will never join an existing Alliance. That has been stated by EK management before and remains credible. Probability for EK in Oneworld is 0%.
