Is there a way to Preview possible bases for competition before joining world?

I'm considering joining Jet age, but is 1/3 thru and I know most airlines will be well established after 10 years.
I wanted to peek and see if there were any places I could test some ideas while my other game sputters along.

however I can't seem to find the option to check open bases?

I am playing Jet Age now, and there are definitely still good bases available (as long as you don't insist on being in "high-prestige" city like New York or London or L.A.).

In addition, it's much easier to get good aircraft in JA at the moment, because a lot more aircraft are considered "good" due to the low fuel prices. Fuel price in JA is around $30 right now, which is 80% lower than DOTM.

And there are plenty of shiny new 707s available, which you can buy cheaply and fight off competitors who have already amassed large prop fleets and are using props to fly long-haul.

I think JA is a much easier game than DOTM right now (not necessarily always true), because of fuel prices and plane availability.

Thanks, I took the plunge, I need the practice of going BK :)

IMO it's a lot harder to go bankrupt in Jet Age than in DOTM, but you are welcome to try!

Not unless you have 3 or more fleet types and several c-checks at the same time. Plus, the older props will kill you in maintenance lol

That happened to me on several occasions.

Just went down from three to two fleet types in JA and commonality costs of the first two didn't change?!

Different than in the current MT game (tried it right away)...

Not different from current MT. Just die the same in MT and cost did not go down either.

Just open a random base and "lurk around the world" untill you find something of interest. Go bankrupt, start all over again and create a new airline from where you thought would be the most interesting spot. You can "test" the marked by just go into any airport in the world and "fake" routeplannings. Do also check the a/c available. Two very important factors!

Interesting, tried that in MT (bought a 20yr old EMB-120 I could scrap right afterwards, and scheduled a single route) and the commonality costs for my other two fleets almost doubled. After scrapping, the costs went to previous levels That ended my expansion plans beyond 1300nm since I probably won't recoup the additional costs that quickly till the world ends...

I had 4 fleets, A320, 737, 757 and 777. When i cut the last A320, commonality costs for the other fleets halved, but when i cut the last 757, nothing happened.

In DOTM, when I went from 2 fleets to 3 fleets, the costs of the first 2 fleets increased by about 50%.
Does this mean that when I finally eliminate the oldest fleet and get back down to 2 fleets, the commonality costs of the remaining fleets won't go down even though they were jacked up by the increase to 3 fleets??

AndiD

For me, it seems to be game world specific. In JA, my commonality costs for the first two stay the same upon adding a third (just verified it with a disposable Dove), while in MT they doubled. Not sure about DoTM here.
