Your preferred mobile device

We are looking for the possibility of creating a lightweight app for AirwaySim that allows users to control their basic airline functions using their preferred phone/tablet device.

For this I would like to know what is your preferred (owned/mainly used) device for internet surfing while on the go. May choose up to 3 options... Choose none if you do not use these gadgets..

Please note that we have only assigned a team to investigate the feasibility of the app, and no decisions have been made yet.

N9 with MeeGo, probably alone? ::)

Why not make the mobile website more user friendly and simplified, like the new mobile Facebook site? UI would be about the same
you get with an app, but instead just a web page so it would work with the majority of phones.

One possibility is a hybrid solution that uses the mobile site as basis, and then has the store and account management functions built in. Since a complete UI inetegration is probably too costly (as discussed before).

I checked Blackberry because that's what my job has saddled me with (everyone else has Droids or iPhones, why I am stuck with a Blackberry is beyond me but whatever).

But honestly, apps don't work very well on this thing anyway. I get all kinds of errors from the Facebook app, and the Delta app has all kinds of features that are "not supported on this model". Even the RIM-produced apps are dogs. So even if there were a Blackberry AWS app I probably wouldn't use it. I'm holding out for a Droid.

Samsung Galaxy Note, so it's Tablet and Smartphone (Android) in one device.

Most important feature would be used aircraft market for me, because I can attach routes at home but time to get used aircraft/refresh the market is limited.

My whole argument against so-called "apps" summed up in a nutshell.  Instead of developing several "apps", a simple web interface compatible with web browsers.  User has only one piece of software, can access anything.

Of course, hardware manufacturers can rip us off less make less money, but hey, customer is king.   Right?

That is my opinion too but being present in the appstore catalogs is one reason for this project being investigated.

And actually the development in the mobile business is going more towards html5 based hybrid apps (when talking of simple apps like newspapers or these largely text-based pages like we have).

The mobile version of the website works great on my Ipad with the Atomic Web browser.

Yeah I'd be inclined to go this way sami, you could make it so you buy credits via in-app purchases maybe. I go with updating to mobile site so you could put it in a simple app like you mentioned above. BTW on my iPad/iPhone in Safari scrolling doesn't work so well when the popup windows occur, it scrolls the screen behind.

Yes, popups in that lightbox (ie. Route planning etc) is an issue, have not yet found a similar solution that would work.

I installed ICS on the Touchpad for giggles. Overall, as long as it isn't in a lightbox, it works fine. Overall lightbox functionality seems to be worse on Android than WebOS.

Have you looked at any of the cross platform frameworks so you can build once/deploy many?  Being a WebOS fanboy, I'd have to mention Enyo, which can be deployed across all platforms + browser... http://enyojs.com/

iPhone.....because my girlfriend wears the pants. But AWS is awesome on the new iPhone 4s I can do everything on it.
