Is it a legal to buy up slots without flying?

Is it legal to craate dummy routes, just to grab slots without assigning the routes to aircraft and flying them?

And I don't mean 1 or 2.  I mean a massive number.

Generally speaking, yes.

If you have no intention, or realistic means, of operating the route then you should not buy the slots for it.

Such behavior should be deemed uncompetative, as it would be in real life.

What I mean is this:
1. Create a route (grab 7 slots)
2. Don't assign a route to any aircraft
3. Create another route (grab 7 slots)
4. Don't assign a route to any aircraft
....
Repeat 100-125 times, grabbing some 1000 slots.

At the end of this excercise, slots are gone, but none of the routes created are being flown.

No. If you do not plan to use them in reasonable time (such as 3 weeks which is the plane pre-delivery window), hogging slots is directly forbidden.

In other words player must have plausible explanation for all unused slots. For example delivery of planes in a year is not such. But creating routes for a plane to be delivered in 3 weeks is ok, as long as the slots/routes are all assignable to that plane (=normal schedule of routes).

Hi Sami,

It may have something to do with D Checks, but I thought I might ask.

I believe slots expire at 2 months if not scheduled but why not make the expiry 3 weeks to make sure people are not hoarding slots? Saves people "suspecting" it and having to police another aspect of the game that is considered an unfair advantage.

Why should there be slot hogging?

Both airlines having most marketshare these time window (one is yours) have plausible enough aircraft that could start their duty between 6-7 o'clock.

The next biggest one with much less slots (25 vs. 105 and 154 Slots) is my airline, starting late afternoon in Heathrow and Gatwick and departing as soon as possible.



All other airlines have less than 10 slots.



If you wonder why there sometimes popping up slots: I used to fly to Paris CDG with smaller aircraft first and now using bigger ones, freeing up slots. But that's no kind of slot hogging, it's normal airline development.
