i got a question...

when you are about to open a further base airport, you can do that in your "home country" or another country, that belongs to the same 'economic region', e.g. european union... where can i see, which other countries belong to the same 'economic region'?... usa-canada? asia? africa? is it possible to start another base in europe, when your home base is in switzerland, for example?...

i'm just wondering, because it would be a vital question when starting another game...

maybe somebody can help!

EU is the only common zone moddeled in AWS at this time and for some time to come.

But there are some exceptions. e.g. in Jet Age, Algeria is part of France for some time. Various bits of Africa and the Caribbean are part of France or England, too, up until the time they officially declared independence. I think PNG is part of Australia. There's one French airport that you're alowed to base in pre-EU if your HQ is in Switzerland. I don't think there's any way to check though, other than to be HQed there and see your options if you click on 'select a new base'.

Other exception is Puerto Rico and I believe Guam for US.

I saw a great route map from another player that had 'foreign' French bases but unfortunately I didn't do a screenshot.  He was HQ'd in Paris but had bases in the Caribbean, South Pacific and (I think) Reunion, off the east coast of Africa.  Lots of routes all over the world - truly global coverage on all continents.  I mean to check the dates of independence and try that sometime...

I saw the same from the UK (at least with DXB), but myself I couldn't open colony-bases in the following JetAge despite being based in Heathrow...

I don't think the British Empire was organised the same as the French.  Many of these far-flung French 'colonies' are actually parts of France in the full sense - they're just another 'department' and the people are French citizens.  With the British ones, they're just "dependant territories" or something like that.  Technically, I think, the flights between mainland France and certain places in the Caribbean etc. are classed as domestic, in many cases.  I think.  I must look it up and give myself a bit of a history lesson...

There is also an exception I think in Central America... but I think that is openskies  :-\

Interesting, perhaps this could be useful. Is any of it tied to how it is displayed when someone is part of an alliance?
