NEW - Fokker 100NG prototype to be out in 2013!
« on: September 01, 2011, 06:19:51 AM »
The aircraft will be a modernized version of the current Fokker 100. The new Fokker has a capacity of 120 passengers and will be the most energy efficient of its kind.

Would be nice to see it back in production. This prototype will most likely fly but production is a difficult one. They themselves think they are nearly there but it just cost a @#$@@35- load of money and effort in a vey very competative part of the market.

I will keep hoping! With my current job I might even get involved!

The F100NG may be the only plane with engines on the tail (with COMAC's) for some years in the future. But the market scope is very tricky with lots of airplanes standing in the 100-120 seat market. Hope they can break even.

Hope they can break even.

Read somewhere that they needed to sell a figure of under 100 units only to break even so should be possible.

Bombardier CRJs won't leave too soon :)

As much as I want this to succeed, this won't happen, though I would be more then happy to
be proved wrong! The fact is the F100 Is already on old design even with new advancements in it's design it is competing
against a whole new generation of 100-120 seat airliners in a market that is beginning to show signs of overcrowding.
They'll be one engine generation behind the current Leap-X/GTF technology, using Rolls-Royce BR725's leaving little room
for a true competitive advantage, And who will order it? KLM has passed on it, ordering E-190's instead, It's filling it's own niche, replacing the older F100s
That being said I wish the aircraft every success possible and hope a few might make it down under.

Then what about the 737NG and the 744/748? Those are old designs too.
And how about the 717.

Very true... all based on 1960s airframes

For short haul there is not much to win whit designing a new structure. That is why everybody is "only" changing the engines and wings. In that respect Fokkers structure has proven it self. I agree they better off switching to th most modern engine around!

Th estimate is that the demand will grow faster than builders can built (shorthaul aircraft that is). That is were Fokker might have a edge.

Well the F100 goes back to the F28 which first flew in 1967, so not that brand new as well.

In a Dutch paper I read that it won't be a new aircraft built from scratch, But it'd be an upgrade for an existing F100 frame as a proof of concept.
