In an interview with Tacsniper, CEO of Solar Airways said he was inspired by the success of WestJet Airlines despite the increase in oil prices and economic down turn. QuoteUniMex
"UNImos MEXico con el mundo" (We join Mexico with the world)

UniMex is Mexico's first airline wich started operations on May 1st 1992.  This airline will focus on international routes, mainly to the U.S. The airline will also manage some national flights from it's homebase, Guadalajara - where all the international flights are operated - to Mexico City with it's only Boeing 737-200. The next week the airline will receive an aditional Boeing 737-200 and a Fokker F28 3000. Right now it is operating routes from Guadalajara to Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare and Mexico City-Benito Juarez Int'l. When the next Boeing 737-200 is received Monterrey will be the next city operated by the airline with daily flights from Guadalajara. The next day, when the Fokker F28 is received Hermosillo and Phoenix will be added to the Airline's route network. The route that's going to be made by the aircraft will be Guadalajara-Hermosillo-Phoenix-Hermosillo-Guadalajara.

The Airline is planning to order from 6 to 12 new Airbus A320 by the end of the year to replace the leased Boeing 737-200's.
The airline says that a strong possibility to replace their Fokker aircraft is the Embraer 145, but it is too small for the route. They are still doing their search to find a replacement aircraft, but they guarantee it will be a new aircraft.

Right now, the airline's aircrafts have all economy seats. But when the new A320 arrive they will feature 10 bussiness class seats and 136 economy seats.

"Our average load factor isn't going great. It is going good, though. It's normal that the first week load factor of every route is low - Even more common that it's low if the airline's new. We're planning to fly to Canada, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela by 1995, plus many more national destinations and to the U.S."
