Opening Bases

Hi All
I notice that there is a need to locate aircraft at the new base within 48 hours REAL TIME.
So that means I could open a new base, NOT transfer any aircraft there, and lease
new aircraft to be placed at that base. They should arrive before the base is automatically closed.

    Is this correct?

I want to open a base but use it for long-haul international and I have none of those aircraft so
I want to least them and have them based at the new airport. I cannot do that until I have opened the new base, BUt I want to be sure they will arrive before the base is closed :-)

   Thanks!

Thats how I understand it to work.

However I'm impatient - I've pre-ordered several aircraft to arrive the day the new base is to be opened. It's apparently easy to transfer the aircraft between bases for "a small charge representing a normal flight".  Question - can anybody who's done this tell me roughly how much it costs and how much delay there is, if any?  I have a total of 27 aircraft (mostly new ones) on order which are for the new base.  I'll be able to change the delivery location for most of them after the base opens and I understand there's a "small charge" for this too.

You're correct on how it works, but there's absolutely no harm in just getting the planes and then opening the base.

Planes move instantly and for virtually no cost.  So just get the planes first, then open the base.

It takes a lot of planes to justify opening a new base with its significant costs.  Personally I find it a better move to build up a fair number of aircraft and then open a base to move them all to.  Yeah, there's some period of time you've got planes not flying, but it's better than that 30%+ salary hit you take for opening the base and then only trickling planes into it.

Anybody who could tell how much approx opening a 2nd base would cost? On an average European airport..

I will have my 18mths in a few weeks... ;D

It cost me 19 millions to open a second base at Paris Orly.

I took out a loan for that though.

The cost to open a base is meaningless.  Worry about the cost to maintain it.

That 30% increase to your salary is the real killer.  It will cost a few million to open a base but can cost you tens of millions per week in added salary expenses if you're a really big airline.

Ok, sounds like a challenge..:-)

Is the new base functional immediately or is there a setup time? And how about planes, can they be transferred if I have non-scheduled planes in my current home base?

Bases open immediately and aircraft can be transferred immediately as well provided you have them "in hangar" waiting around at your home base.  There's a tiny fee per plane to relocate it (flying empty to the new base).

Ok.

So it says within EU other than home country EU bases can be opened, why do I get only other Finnish airports available as my second base???

I'm not familiar with EU politics or what time frame the BW game is in, but is Finland a member of the EU at your point in the game?

Murppa1

Just got it also...Finland joined EU in 95 and it is still 94. OMG... ;D

My base was about 3.2 million to open up. But even at a 20 million price tag I'm still going to profit from it within the first year. Just have to pick wisely :)
