does anybody know, why douglas did not rebuild the DC8 for domestic operations ?
short range - 300++ pax capacity.

in the -63 variant the a/c can fly 5000 nm with a max load of 260 pax.
why did'nt they make it more wide and long to put in in every row 2 seats more ?
would be interesting to know because in the 70's the widebodies also for short haul operations
started to be developed.....

Making the fuselage wider would probably require a totally new design.
The DC-8 was already stretched a lot, I don't think it'd be very possible to stretch it even more.
Besides, 300 pax is probably too much plane for a domestic flight. Except in Japan.
People prefer frequency.

edit: besides, DC-8 with 2 more seats added each row? That would make a seating configuration of 4-3.
I do not want to be the person sitting at the window seat with 3 other seats next to me.
Will cause huge TAT.

They did this and called it the dc-10.

They discontinued the dc-8 upon its introduction to avoid canibalizing the salesof the 10.
