Hi... Will there still be reasonable used aircraft, and productive hubs available in this game. Say in around a week-or-two, after I complete my testing in the demo game. Or should I wait till the next beginner's world starts, so that my ego does not take too much of a hammering?

Sami

There seems to be at least fairly good selection of used planes available, and 1+ months of time left in this scenario .. So why not. Just choose the base airport carefully (other airlines and slots).

Skyrat

Right, thanks Sami for the quick reply. I'll get to reading the forum guides, and practicing in the demo game. Then I'll start in this game, and with luck keep my first airline afloat for a while (bums on seats).

Yes, there are a lot of used aircraft on the market now.

The really old used aircraft that few want anymore are reasonably priced.
The desirable used aircraft are usually overpriced by 15% - 30% with many being
as much or more than the same thing brand new.

I'm curious..........does anybody actually buy or lease those overpriced aircraft, because
they do eventually disappear.
Or does the system have a time limit on how long an overpriced aircraft will sit there.

Use the rest of this world to gain experience and then you'll be ready for the next beginners world.
It's during the first month (game time) that the desirable used aircraft are available and also reasonably priced giving these players a big advantage along with the other more obvious advantages ( first selection of hubs & routes etc. )

Hi Cal, thanks for the advice...

I flagged the demo, and have started up in Beginner's world. A have learned a lot already, and it's going OK so far. There is still a lot of medium-haul MD's available, and at a descent lease price. I can make a good profit on these leased MD's, because there are still spare airport slots available in my area (US Eastern Seaboard, and Gulf). My plan is to lease a fleet till I can buy direct from the production line, and then replace 1 for 1 to maximize my rout profits. A Simple plan, but may have to wait for the next game to see to fruition.

Hey Cal

Quick reply to your question : YES, some people actually lease them.

Let's make it this way : You have a decent fleet of A330/A340, 747 and 777. Basically, these are the three best money makers I've found in this game. My order log was full up to 1.5 years ahead. If you lease older aircraft, you get it in two weeks, instead of more than 1.5 years.

You can tell me that it looks stupid : I could buy brand new MD-11, or B767. Actually, this would lead in much bigger fleet commonality costs, that I try to contain on three classes of aircraft for LH.

Hope this replies to your question.

Have a great game

Fleet communality does not seem to be a big issue in the beginners world. I got into big problems with this in the demo game so I keep a small fleet in terms of manufacturers and engines. Seems to be a mistake because I see very successful competitors with as many airplanes as the routes they have. So I learned one thing; I will not care about the fleet anymore. Get whatever you can to grow and maybe then you should start worrying about your fleet....

Yup, many people do not care a lot about that, but it actually saves a lot to have fleet commonality. This coupled with intensive use of existing routes gave me enough income and cost savings to largely overtake my competitor at CDG at that time (when I started, he was having 15% of market share, when I left he had 12% and I have 55... fleet commonality helps a lot for making money faster)

It starts to be an issue for crew training, cost reductions,... But sometimes you see people with a LOT of different aircraft, but they all share the same commonality (Ex : A318/319/320/321, and their derivatives 321-100, 321-200,...) These planes all represent one specific line, making very big fleet, but they share their commonality so that you can have 3, 4 or 5 kings of planes.

Anyway, as long as you feel good with your airline, you're fine !

Have a great game.

well skyrat congrats on getting your airline up and going , though im a bit worried of your plan to grow then buy to replace as it will take forever and probably not worth the costs
as after 6 months in operation i have 21 aircraft with only 2 types of aircraft ( though one engine type) and im having trouble as it is to find the money to pay for new aircraft
in all honest fact i have ordered two airbus to replace the older planes in my fleet and finding it hard to get the money together to pay for them
hope you learn to fill capcity gaps quick !!!!!!!!!

hope you make it big skyrat , hope you enjoy beginners world and became a top 5 airline  ;D ;)
