I'd like to see Japan vs Ghana in the finals but thats unlikely. It's too bad USA was eliminated. (I'm a new soccer fan :) )

My bet is
1st Uruguay
2nd Argentina
3rd Brazil

If you're a new soccer fan then you should be straightened out....

1) Portugal
2) Brazil
3) Germany

Either Brazil or Portugal I'm fine with winning, but Portugal is my fav. :D

I was going for Mexico but now I'm p***ed of because of yesterday's Mexico-Argentina match. >:( So unfair.

Holland will win. ;)

Since Finland is never going to qualify, I'm cheering for Japan. Other favorites for me are/were South-Korea and USA.
I believe Japan has a chance to win their next match, but they'll lose the semi-final if they make it so far.

I'd put my money to a South-American winner this year! Argentina looks damn good and Brazil is always strong. Of course Germany is 'always' in the top4 as well.

STOP. Holland won't for the simple reason its not participating in the world cup. The royal kingdom of the Netherlands is, and as Holland is integrated into that... Holland doesn't play as a country but the team is made up from players from Holland and the Netherlands. The team name is "Orange".

Please read... think you like a bit of history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holland

Even Dutch people use Holland (like in hup holland hup), can't blame foreign people for doing the same ;)

Portugal será o campeão, batendo os perdedores na Itália, que venceu no ano passado sobre os franceses estúpidos!

(Portugal will become the champions by beating out those losers in Italy who won last year over the stupid French!)

Well... At least Netherlands is now in the World top 8...  Take that you fat Stirling using island inhabitants, Snail and Cow brain eating frogs and corrupt Pizza heads  ;D ;D  (I don't want to offend any one here... I'm just happy that one of the smallest countries in Europe can do things the big ones can't.

And here we have a joker!  ;D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_population

Of course if you measure by the total area, maybe then, but I can't see how it has any effect on football...

England  :-[

I think Argentina will probably win though

Why does England have a team but Holland doesn't?

d2031k

Unfortunately I don't know enough about the Netherlands to compare geo-political elements properly, but in terms of UK football - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have seperate regulatory bodies and hence seperate leagues.  This is manifested in the seperate national teams too.  This does fall apart a little since some Welsh teams (e.g. Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham) play in the English leagues and 1 English team (Berwick-on-Tweed, on the Scottish border) plays in Scotland to make travelling easier as it's a semi-professional side.

As far as I know, the Eredivisie in the Netherlands incorporates all parts of the Netherlands including Holland.  Please let me know if this is worng :)

There's a good quote from wikipedia - 'Although most national football teams represent a sovereign state, England is one of the United Kingdom's Home Nations. This means that it is permitted by FIFA statutes to maintain its own national side that competes in all major professional tournaments, with the exception of the Olympic Games'
