Come on the Conservatives....

Come on, green!

Oh, wrong country, we have elections coming up in the state of NRW in germany this sunday.

LePresidente

Looks like its a hung parliament.....although reports of "problem voting" coming to light. Just heard that Labour have offered an olive branch to the Liberals....this could be a very interesting tactical move by Labour to gain enough support go rule!

So glad to have a system where this doesn't happen...

We too are supposed to have a system where hung parliament doesn't happen and indeed it is very rare. It's going to be very interesting to see how it works out.

LePresidente

Hung parliament or problem voting?....because Florida voting springs to mind

dont get started on the electoral college of the USA.  So outdated.

LePresidente

Unfortunately Mr Brown has been re-elected in the seat of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath, which is annoying although not unexpected. He did win 29k votes out of 46k....very easily for him and he even increased his vote by 4%.

LePresidente

While a hung parliament is very unusual in the UK, in many EU countries this is common practise, with major parties working together. The conservatives have now missed 3 key marginal constitutions, which were Labour holds......not looking good for a conservative majority government. "Hung parliament" is now a certainty.

NorgeFly

I think there's a growing possibility that we'll see a Lab/Lib coalition, if indeed Conservatives can't get a majority, or at least close to it!

NorgeFly

What is crazy about our voting system is that votes don't equal seats...

So far, out of the constituencies that have declared:

Labour  1.2m votes = 45 seats

Conservative  1.1m votes = 29 seats

Lib. Dem 0.7m votes = 5 seats

samsaunders85

Looks like the Tories have done it.............. ;D

They have a long way to go before you can say that... they aren't on target to win a majority so there it's still wide open.

No you got the best of all....    ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't think we in Holland have the best either with 19 registered parties... but:

Our system is utteerly simple, logic and fair to the voters.

If your party gets 20% of the votes... you will get 20% of seats in parliament
If your party gets 45% of the votes... you will get 45% of seats in parliament
If your party has 3% of votes you will get 3% of seats in parliament

It is a fair system to the voters and it can couse interesting situations of parties forming alliances to get things done or block it. Only eight years ago we had "Purple" in parliament, The Tories working together with Labour"....  and it worked for 7 years... untill the war in Yugoslavi a in which The Netherlands was involved as a UN partner.

Last 8 years we had Christen democrats in parliament and they were a bunch of crap. The parliament has fallen 3 times.

Now something about the UK Elections:
"UK is still a  :'( world country by closing the polling-stations while people are still waiting in que to vote".

Bye bye Brown! (unless he teams up)

And Gordon Brown still feels he is in a position to govern. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Or find and punch him.  ;)

Green? Softcore communists!

Go DKP ;D (Deutsche Kommunistische Partei|German Communist Party) [not to be mixed up with the forbidden KPD :P (actually it is the same, just another name, and not that antidemocratic)]

mideg

Hm, I think it is some step from the German Green Party to the Communists.
