I don't know why i am not making any profit.

I think there might be a bug or something beause i have 6 ac, all flying, and i am going broke. I do not know why. Can you tell me what i am doing wrong sami?

Maarten Otto

You probably expanded too fast.

Fleet commonality is key in the start up of your airliner. Have a look at the fleet commonality section which can be found under the Aircraft tab in the game.

Try to stick to 1 type of AC untill you have 10 or more. Then think about your second type (if needed)

You also might find the "Search" option in the forum to be usefull.

mikk_13

yeah i know about this. i have 5 dash 7s and 1 yak42. so it is very common.

Runner

Not really. The Yak is probably killing you. Those Russain aircraft are very expensive to maintain! Especially when they're old!

How much is your marketing cost?

mikk_13

only have the basic 'base city' on bill board and news papers

I took a look at your airline:

You fly a number of routes against heavy competition from your base mate in Orly (e.g. Lyon, Barcelona). He will probably try to kill you on price on these routes, as you are still very small compared to him. Further, you also fly a lot of competitive routes against other very big airlines, they will probably do the same and attempt to keep you low on price. As your CI and load factors are probably anyway lower than those of your main competitors, it is hard to sustain that battle.

Why don't you try to schedule only routes with your props where you fly alone and oversatisfy demand a little. Also choose 90 pax routes or so with two daily frequencies, if you plan on staying on props. Try to get your load factors up (where are they right now and where is your CI?).

You can make very good money with the DHC-7 on short routes. How many routes do your planes fly per day (screenshot from scheduling page?) and what are your turnaround times? How is your flight delay statistic?

Ok, my lyon and barcelona routes are about 40% load factor. The thing is there is not heavy competition. There is no excess supply. So I am not competing as such.

The problem is I put only 100 or so seats on routes that have demand of over 500 and i still can't get cent load factors. I don't know why I am not making any money. I have no idea what i am doing wrong.

Every other airline I have made, I have made some profit. But at the moment I am just losing money even though all my aircraft indicate a profit, they are all in the green. Last week I made 30 000 profit and that was the first week in the last 4 months.

mikk_13

Also my Ci is about 20 and flights are 95% punctual. I fly my planes from around 5-6 in the morning until 2300, the airport is shut at night.

I can't increase marketing since i have no money and I can't fly my planes any more than i am.

swiftus27

wrong wrong wrong...

You CAN fly a nice redeye if you have somewhere to go...

I flew out of Sydney and would have a flight that was on its way back at ~2300 and landed past 0600.

DenisG

Your load factors are way too low! How are the load factors on the other routes, where you fly alone?
Denis

mikk_13

all the same. i don't know why they are so low. even on the route with 500 demand and 100 or so seats. still about 40%. this sucks

mikk_13

is it normal for my ground handling to be 120 000 for 6 planes. wtf.

and why is it necessary to have 15 pilots for the yak? i have 29 for my dash 7's and i have 5 of those. i konw the yak needs 3 pilots but this doesn't really make sense does it.

swiftus27

please read the millions of threads on this already, please...  search function works great!!!!

mikk_13

yeah, i'm not a new player. I keep an eye on the threads and i know what is in them.

I had one of the top airlines in mt1.

I never had this much trouble before and i am not doing anything different from what i have done. hopefully the mods will delete your comment since it doesn't help to have a smart arse chastise players for opening a thread. If you don't have anything helpful to say then don't comment on the thread. If you feel the thread is not to your liking, then feel free not to read it. thanks

What swiftus wanted to point out was, that using the search engine before posting your question about the amount of pilots required by a single a/c, you would have found the answer very easily.

Since any one pilot does not operate 24 hours a day, but rather less then 8 hours a day, and he does not work 7 days a week but maybe 5, and he wants paid holidays and might get ill or whatever, you need more then the mentioned 3 pilots per plane.

mikk_13

Thats all well and good. However what i was pointing out was that i have 5 dash 7 and only 29 pilots for those. however one yak and 15 pilots.
Is this ratio correct?

I understand that 3 pilots can not fly 24 hours a day. However what i am wondering is why i don't have over 50 pilots for the dash7's?

this does not solve the problem of why i am not making any money. what the hell am i doing wrong?

mikk_13

never mind anymore i'll bk. i have to start paying leases this month so thats it.

Hello there.

I see you have restarted already. Although you hub is a decent one with good demand... why choose smaller turboprops when you could have gone with something a bigger? Dash 7s are good regional aircraft but... you have the demand to support a jet fleet in the 100-130 seat range. BACs would a great starter aircraft.

Also, its much harder to turn a profit with regional aircraft compared to mid-sized aircraft. Your props need to fly nearly full to provide enough income to pay for your overhead.

This is be very difficult considering:

1.) Your props bring in limited amount of income due to size.
2.) The base configuration of your props is High density economy. Even with high CI and discounted pricing, you cant get very high LF. (90%+)

Low CI, RI and HD seating = You'll be pulling your hair out in 2 days...

You stated you had a big airline in MT1. Can you recall the details and see if everything wasn't that "different" from what you had done before?
