Oh dear! People like that man shouldn't be allowed to fly anyway  :P what an embarrassment to the British nation to have him being watched World-wide!  :-[

NATS have just announced that UK airspace will remain closed until 1900 (UK Local) on Friday and will update at 0830 for plans to 0100 on Saturday. Some flights may be allowed between N.Ireland and Glasgow.

So in short, another day of grounded flights in the UK at least.

Its not all bad news. An A310 Air Transat flight managed to take off from glasgow this morning and make its way to toronto. I don't know how long it'll stay up there though  ;)

Dutch air space will be closed until tomorrow 0700Z, the Belgium air space will be closed until tomorrow 1100Z.
Czech Republic and Bulgaria also closed their air spaces.

A BA flight did the same back in the day.

Knut, you're the best! I was going to mention this event too! :) It's not only dangerous for the engines, but that powder can sandblast your windshield and clog your ventilation lines!

It's http://www.radarvirtuel.com/

currently looking very empty as you might expect now... one lonely Aer Lingus A330-300 has just left DUB bound for ORD by the look of it and that is it.... weird!

Currently the restrictions are only in place until 0700 tomorrow, not Sunday.

http://www.nats.co.uk/

That of course doesn't mean that it wont be extended as it has been several times now...

Flybe have announced that they will operate flights from Manchester (north bound only), Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen from 1300 as long as restrictions are not extended to include Scotland and Northern Ireland again. They're also offering a shuttle service between Belfast and Glasgow from 1900 this evening.

So it looks like things are starting to get moving again which is a good sign :)

I live in Iceland and we're finding the situation... Interesting. Amusing, perhaps. It's not often that something that happens here has a major effect on the world.

Ironically, Keflavik (the main International airport of Iceland), is still open and flights to and from the Americas are still flying as usual.

NorgeFly

Haha, you may not find it so amusing if the wind direction changed and closed REK and KEF  :P

With my geography student hat on I can say that Eyjafjallajökull, the cause of this erupted on a continuous basis at varying strengths between 1821 - 1823. So maybe it's three years time.

But I hope not.

Yeah I heard/read that somewhere. I really hope it doesn't keep going for 3 years!!

The worse thing about it is that some insurance companies will not pay out because it's an "act of god".

I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens, A few people our family knows haven't been able to fly out to a few different places.

Holland and the UK wanted cash,
All they got from iceland was ash.

samomuransky

OK, what about this deal:

European countries won't claim debts from Iceland, but Iceland have to create some big fan which will send that ash to America instead of Europe? ;D ;D ;D

ICEcoldair881

by the time we get it it will mix in with the smog we already have.... ;D

no, the actual problem is that Eyjafjallajökull has a sister volcano, which always erupts when the other does, so.......yeah, we're hoping it won't be big! :P

However that would be bad for me going to Florida!

Let's hope it's sister doesn't decide it wants to join the party too.
