The end of year shopping period is approaching quickly and everyone is thinking about what gift to offer to other people or what calendar will decorate their desk during the year 2010.

For AirwaySim players it would be great to be able to purchse AirwaySim branded stuff such as
- Calendars with great aircraft pictures
- Mouse pads
- Tshirt (even in winter:-) )
- ...

Currently, AirwaySim only relies on games to make money but a shop would allow to diversify and increase income. No ?

Nice idea.

I would suggest hoodies and fleeces for the winter season!:) Sami, you could ask www.7point62design.com to produce the t-shirt: affordable prices and very high quality, I've many of their t-shirt!

The question for sami is what would demand be like on that type of thing?

Sami

I checked some choices and didn't find any suitable for calendars.. Setting up a "shop" to sell tshirts and that sort of stuff is possible, but it's most definitely not a money earning scheme of any sort, as the places that handle the printing and shipping for us give ridiculously low commissions on the sales. And on the other hand ordering and mailing them ourselves isn't an option - I've done it before for a website and won't do it again. ;D

Filippo

I would buy everything of AWS!

Now that I got my first job I can afford it without asking permission! ;)

First - YOU GOT A JOB??!!! That's pretty cool - I really want a job (I'm the "I love money" type of guy...it's in my blood)  ;D

- You could have AWS gift cards...but you would have to have friends playing AWS to do that...otherwise it's just pointless. And you could put a special 5%, 7%, 8.75868493%  ::) discount off credits when merchandise is bought. Or offer "Free bonus 5 credits when shirt is bought plus a bonus 10% discount for the next AWS credit payment"  ;)

That would be cool and awesome  8)

What if we did it regionally to reduce shipping costs and had people in each region manage it as a non-profit.  The benefit would be greater exposure and loyalty from existing members.  This would require far less management from Sami other than to provide the web space and approve the items for sale.  To further share the burden maybe we could form continental clubs of die-hard fans to collaborate on the offering for each region (and other things as well).

Thoughts?

Have you looked at http://www.spreadshirt.net ?

There is an option to let them to the work and just have the store and earn provision. Maybe not the biggest moneymaker, but it's an easy way to get started.

aws mousemat for me :D

edit... just had a thought why not do limited edition mousemat for example... aws gets the total cost price per item, everyone who wants one pays up front, sami then orders knowing every mat is sold.

Maarten Otto

Do I get 10 free credits with my order  ;D

If the idea is really wanted then (again) the easiest idea is to just set up a shop to some third-party site offering these services. There are many of these services and I have scouted them already so it's just the matter of doing it.

But as mentioned none of them are moneymakers in any way, as that is one of the causes mentioned, so don't consider buying them as supporting the AWS project - consider them as we supporting you and thanking for the interest (and free advertisement you will give to AWS when walking the Red Carpet with our shirt on) ;)

You can make a poll to see how many people would be interested. That is the best way for you I believe.
