Hi I have airline (Deustche Regional Airlines) based in Numberg, Germany with a fleet of 3 ERJ's and find myself in a standstill.
Not only is it really hard to find decent passenger rates to cities close by (300NM) but there is no direct long haul flight possbilities.
My question is how do I expand my airline and begin long haul flights if the passenger rates in my city are low.
I have thought about flying long haul from other airports but that would mean that the airplane would have to complete a turn around at that city and I would lose both time and money. What should I do??

Beginning to think that I my only option is to buy more ERJ's and continue flying int short haul.

Well you kinda said it yourself - either fly somewhere else or continue the way you do. Not much else possible.

BTW there were thoughts about "technical route" that the airplane would fly somewhere without passengers and just took them there and continued. I think it's a good idea but it is not yet implemented.

FlyTO

i fly out of la guardia.. the runway is 2100m something... i did not realize this when i decided to lease a couple of long range planes only to find out it would not work with my runway at the airport cause the planes require atleast 2800m.... it was a bad mistake but now I just use a MD-88 or MD83 or MD90 - long range medium planes, and just connect it with the most close to the ocean airport i could find, - in my case st john canada, and to do a tech stop since i researched that the demand from st-john to england was even worse than from new york..

something you could do, and i face no competition so far from long hauls since those airlines all use the large aircrafts that cannot land at my airport.
