Washington, D.C.

— The Reagan Administration today announced the opening of a new direct commercial air route between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, a deliberate action reinforcing U.S. dominance and allied control of the North Atlantic and Arctic regions.

This decision comes amid continued Soviet military expansion in the Arctic, including increased bomber patrols, submarine activity, and efforts to challenge Western early-warning and defense systems. The United States will not allow strategic territory to drift into ambiguity or neglect.

"Let there be no misunderstanding," a senior Administration official stated. "The Arctic is a frontline of the free world. The United States will remain present, capable, and unchallenged in regions essential to our security and that of our allies."

Greenland's role in North Atlantic defense is critical. Expanding American civilian and commercial access strengthens operational reach, logistical readiness, and the permanent visibility of U.S. power in the region.

This route is not symbolic. It is intentional.

President Reagan has made clear that deterrence is achieved not through words alone, but through action. Today's announcement is such an action.
