Title: Is there a better way to do stop overs?
Post by: coopdogyo on June 27, 2025, 05:21:16 PM
I am wondering if I am missing something or is this really the best way to do stop over. My current process is this:

1. Find route that requires a stopover
2. Go to the open route page and select a stopover.
3. Use either google maps or geography knowledge to select a country that is generally halfway between my origin and destination.
4. Click around at airports in that country to a suitable one to stop over at.
5. Repeat for the return trip
6. Create the route.

This seems like a very inefficient process is there a better work flow I should be using to find stop over airports?

gcmap.com

I also look at the destinations airport timetable to see what other people have used, search for "via ". Eg, If I'm on EGLL and want to go to RJGG with 2 stops, I can probably use what somebody used for EHAM-RJGG, close enough. You'll also learn the common stopovers after a while

Oh yeah, to find airports on the map, to to routes/airport information and click on "view airport map" in small red letters bottom right. Use this with GCMAP.COM to find stopovers

This seems like something that could be improved...

We don't want everything automated though, right? Working out weird and imaginative stopover strategies is part of the fun of the game.

I don't know about automated but a map showing the GC route (I think you used to be part of the route planning screen) and the ability to toggle airports on/off would be useful. It is more about just reducing the number of clicks and tabs required to operate.
