Title: Airport Infrastructure level vs demand
Post by: wizard on May 16, 2024, 10:04:21 PM
Hi all,

The docs I have looked at don't seem to mention if an airport upgrading its infrastructure will have any impact on demand. I am trying to work out if I can build up enough pax at an airport to the point it expands, will demand be positively affected for said airport?

Thanks in advance
Wizard

Short answer - for pax no, for cargo yes.

Pax is based on fairly static numbers that climb year on year largely based on the population growth of both countries I suspect. There are also some fairly fixed events, like the breakup of the Soviet Union, that change passenger demand. But infra has nothing to with it.

Cargo totally different, hit the docs about city based demand. Airports have a circle who radius is 80% determined by infra and 20% by traffic. The circles covers many squares, and squares generate cargo to squares all over the rest of the world. On an airport information page scroll down to the map and tick the two small boxes top right. That will show the airports circle (catchment area) and the squares it covers.

Hope this helps,

Simon
