Title: Test the new AirwaySim website
Post by: Sami on February 20, 2024, 11:06:24 AM
Good news, it's time to test something new  :)

As posted earlier, a completely new AirwaySim website has been in the works. I will be posting a bit more background and "marketing" of this later, but at this point I am inviting everyone to test the new systems.

Known things:

Are you going to start the clock?  It all seems to work very smoothly so far, but there's not much more we can really test until the game's actually running.

Been a bit busy with work but I plan to start a separate test game there. Latest by early next week.

On tablet (pixel tablet) lay out is not working as it is supposed to. Fonts seem way too big to me.

But the general look and feel is great! Good work Sami!

A new test game is now available - please join and test; it's free!

The test game runs on a very small virtual server and for this reason:

These will not be issues when system is moved to the actual production servers.

The first major issue I've spotted is that several functions don't work at all and generate a popup:

Error: 500. Internal Error.

So far these are:
Routes/Route Map  (this works when you access it via the Airline Information page)
Aircraft/Aircraft on Order
Aircraft/Seat Configuration
Aircraft/Aircraft Insurance
The Compare Aircraft function errors when you select the second a/c and hit "Search"
also the Range Map and Payload vs. Range graphic in each a/c Operational Info generates that error.

I'm guessing this is something fairly fundamental, hence posting here right away rather than saving all problems for later...

Oh, my existing login credentials don't work on the new feedback forum which is also why I didn't post there either.  I didn't want to confuse things by creating a new account with the same email.

The feedback board is separate and needs own login.

The error 500s don't seem to be happening to me, and I have used those pages myself too. But I see it in the logs and will fix soon. It seems to be a config issue with the server itself since it comes and goes and not an issue in the game/code itself.

Edit: Might be fixed now.

I joined the testgame and first thing I notice is that in Route planning the route information button ("Globe") does not produce a popup...
It does work when pressing my middle mouse button, it opens in a new tab.

When scheduling a route the "selection screen" has a scroll bar. Is that how it's supposed to be (I mean I can see the benefits compared to multiple pages...)

Works for me just fine.

Which is your device / browser combination?

Got the same and works 100% OK for popups for me (Routes -> Route Planning).

Does the javascript console say any errors upon clicking the link?

I like the new design..but one small request. ;D

When you look at aircraft information, or just look at your aircraft you see an image of the aircraft.
Can you make the picture size bigger??

There is empty space around the image where a bigger picture is possible.

And since the image is created from your server is there a way to vary the images?

I've found a couple of very minor/cosmetic bugs.  Do you still want a bug report raising for each of those.  I don't want to clog up the system with little stuff when you're busy.

The first concerns pop-up boxes.  Basically there used to be a delay on mouse-over before they opened but that's no longer there. It makes the Scheduling page, in particular, almost impossible to navigate around as you have to actively 'dodge' just about every "hot" area to get where you need to be.

Secondly, when buying/leasing an a/c, if you create a new seat configuration at that time, it used to automatically appear in the box, ready to be used. Now it's not visible at all and you have to 'F5' the screen in order to use it. Also, the Creare Config popup used to auto-close when done with, but no longer does. I guess that might be related.

Thirdly, the BACK button doesn't work on some screens but is OK on others.  The URL at the top changes back to what it should be but nothing happens.  I realise this may be a browser issue so I'll get more details.  Has anyone else noticed this?

EDIT. It seems you've already somewhat fixed the mouse-over issue since I was last in there a few hours ago. There's a delay now, but it's still only about half what it was in the old version so not ideal.

Best to open separate of each so I can keep track of them.

- Popups were adjusted recently.

- Seat config thingy fixed.

- Back button is known thing, caused by the "tabs" navigation in old pages, and will be fixed when new pages are rolled out.

The test game will still run for a few days.

I will be sending a feedback questionnaire link to the email of everyone who joined the test game.

But do keep sending reports to Discord or to the feedback.airwaysim.com site, or to this thread.

I am hoping to get the new system live soon to get things moving forward.

If you wish to play in another test game, you can join it now. Setup is Modern era, Euro area.

[URL Redacted]

I've set it up for my mates but room for others to join too. Same idea as in previous test game - do whatever you like and report any problems!

The second test game is ending in 2 days, and we are nearing the launch of the new site.

The test website URL is now removed from all forum posts, and the test domain will be soon closed for public access.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the testing. :)

Migration to the new system is planned for Thursday 25th April. This will involve a total website shutdown for some time, with games being paused. Thanks for the patience.  ;)

Hi Sami,

is there Any Option where you can choose the Old Format or new Format?

I dont like the new Format yet. Its not so smoot like the old one and to many menu and less buttons. (Notepade, Inbox, Baseview Gametime etc.) I like the old format very much.

Maybe there we become a choise beetween old and new format of Website. That would be great.

Chris.

No, we are migrating to the new system, and the game pages will be moved one-by-one to it (ref. Game -> Statistics page for a proper mobile view!). There is no option to use the old website anymore since the entire backend (incl. account management) is 100% new.

Question: When you go to:
Routes -> Manage Routes
You see all routes or can filter some of the routes.

The button: "select all" is not available on new layout.

So you need to select all the routes manually. That's a lot of work.
Can you bring back the "select all" button?

It is still there but someone pointed out the same to me yesterday that it might not always be visible on mobile devices. Have to check it...

Hello, there are no more filters on the used airplanes market? I use AWS on mobile afterwards. Thank you

I'm having the exact same issue (MacBook Pro and Chrome). If I use Inspect within Chrome to look at the HTML code, I can find the select all checkbox hidden, and I can unhide it (removing the "hide" class) and it does work... I would screenshot but I don't seem to be able to paste or upload here.
