So I've spoken to some members of Elite in their Discord server and others here. As mentioned in the past, there is a desire to finally have a meet up once and for all.
From our last conversation, people mentioned going to Cancun and finding an all inclusive. There are many places to choose from and there are numerous flights from Europe and North America to the Mexican destination. Still a great idea.
I want to add a cruise to the list. For instance, I just got off of Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas. It sailed out of Miami. There were TONS of international cruisers on board. Miami seems to have a flight from everywhere that lands there. So I want to add it to the list. A 7 night sailing that would either go Eastern/Western Caribbean would be fun. It only takes 8 staterooms to make a "group" on RCCL so that should hopefully not be a problem.
I have no problem acting as liaison and help set it up based on if we have enough desire or demand. I just don't want to let this idea die before we do it once. I think there have been many of us that have been around too long without formally shaking hands.
Would there be enough interest?
Will there be an open bar?
Im sure something can be arranged for enough money. An all inclusive will always have one. The cruise ship makes you pay for it normally.
How many Credits for a beer? :D
Even better - a code-ethon where 5 or 6 of us that code get in a room with Sami supervising and all implement the new features we all want. I'll supply the beer..!
Internet access on cruises is non-existent (free) to poor (expensive - insert fistful of dollars, receive a megabyte very slowly). I would find the all inclusive to be superior....
They have "Voom" internet at sea. Is pretty good actually
I would be in favor of something land-based. Reserving a party room, banquet hall for a night or two in a fun location might attract a bigger turnout. My humble oppinion.
Maybe for one meal but I anticipate people being together for more than just one night. An all inclusive has party rooms or often someone can get a room that has a sizeable reception area. There are spaces on the larger cruise ships too.
In jest, perhaps certain alliances will have their own private events too.
Could I suggest Munich?
Easy to get to, the beer is great and hotels are super value?

I'd not go in that case. Munich is really expensive overall. And for beer, I'd much rather go to Prague. ;D
What if we check first where people are from (at least those who want to meet up) and then check whats the easiest meeting point for the majority?
We can also say Reykjavik. Home of Icelandair between US and EU with a nice little hub for connectivity and we could have a spotting activity at KEF or REK.
Otherwise it's or a EU or a US meetup and the two Aussies of AWS can have a drink together and call it a meet-up down under.

Going to bet the farm on majority USA and Europe. Smattering of Asia and Oceania. Very few everywhere else.
soooo, an aircraft carrier mid-atlantic? The ride out, and landing, would be superb...! :D
I hear there are a good number of super-yachts all around Europe that are laid up with nothing to do at the moment. We could get some Oligarchs private helicopters to drop us out onto either the fore or the aft landing pads on one of these superyachts and really live it up ! :D
if that was only true
Pie + Sky =
refinement of the aircraft carrier idea, whilst keeping the US/Europe foci...
QE2 does NY-Southampton once a week. US lot flies to UK, boards QE2 with Europe lot, play AWS/drink lots/code slot management and 7 day auto-schedule, dock Manhattan. All fly home!

That sounds like the best plan that has credential that I have seen here !
Hmmm. What does it cost these days? Let me go look.
Trans ocean is NOT on the faint of heart, though.

Isn't the QE2 in Dubai now? I think the QM2 does the crossings now....
Modify/Edit: Looked it up. It is the QM but it is EXPENSIVE! Wow. 4k for 2 people in an oceanview room.
I found a £999 14 nights soton-ny-soton. Cheaper than a hotel, especially when food is included.

Did you see the small-print? You're sleeping in a hammock right next to the diesel engines and you're scrubbing the machine-room floors there and back - oh and the included food is water and gruel.

I'm an AWS player - I know pain suffering loss and sleepness nights. Sounds like a cakewalk!
I booked this cruise for my family:
June 2, 2023
Royal Caribbean, Radiance of the Seas.
Departs: VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUNEAU, ALASKA, ICY STRAIT POINT, ALASKA SITKA, ALASKA SKAGWAY, ALASKA SEWARD, ALASKA
4 of us are in a Oceanview room (the balcony rooms are a bit pricey). It was $3200 all included (without travel).
Getting to Vancouver is pretty easy for everyone. Getting home from PANC is a tad more challenging for some, though.
